    Namen nadgradnje obstoječega tira Maribor-Šentilj-d.m. izhaja iz problematike obstoječega stanja obravnavanega odseka proge, in sicer: omejena zmogljivost obstoječega odseka proge, je ozko grlo z vidika kategorije proge, saj je dovoljena osna obremenitev kategorije C3 (20 ton na os), neustrezna stabilnost in nosilnost spodnjega ustroja (nasip Pesnica, predor Počehova), omejena koristna dolžina postajnih tirov, ki ne omogoča obratovanja vlakov dolžine 740 metrov .     The purpose of upgrading the existing Maribor-Šentilj-d.m. track stems from the problem of the current state of the section of the line, namely: the limited capacity of an existing section of line is a bottleneck from the point of view of the category of line, since the permissible axle load of category C3 (20 tonnes per axle), the inadequate stability and load capacity of the lower structure (peel embankment, Počehova tunnel), the limited useful length of the station tracks, which does not allow the operation of trains of 740 metres.
