The ceramic product has ceased to be an element to cover walls and floors in kitchens and bathrooms, becoming a solution of decoration and trend with specific technical properties for all types of surfaces. The Torrecid Group, a leader in the ceramics sector, has been one of the main drivers of this revolution and constantly seeks to lead change to incorporate valuable innovations into its products. Thus, one of the new technologies of interest to them is intelligent surfaces, that is, those with added functionality, in addition to the aesthetic value, such as radiant emission. _x000D_ intelligent surfaces are based on the use of advanced materials, nanotechnology and advanced manufacturing processes, all of which are Essential Facilitation Technologies (TFEs) recognised by the European Commission as the technologies that will drive Europe’s industrial leadership. Within this field, the transport industry has been a real tractor of its promotion and development. That is why the Torrecid Group will seek to forge an alliance with one of the most important knowledge centers in Spain in the transport sector, CTAG — Automotive Technology Centre of Galicia, promoting a transfer of technology from the transport sector to the ceramics industry. _x000D_ thus created the KERASMART project — Research of new functional coatings to develop innovative thermal comfort solutions on ceramic surfaces. The general objective of this project is the research and development of functional coatings for their application through different technologies on specific ceramic surfaces to generate new systems with inherent heating properties in 3 different environments: technical floors, bathrooms and furniture.
