SE TRATA DE UN PROYECTO DE INVESTIGACION BASICA MULTIDISCIPLINAR QUE ABARCA A LA QUIMICA DE COORDINACION, LA MAGNETOQUIMICA, LA ELECTROQUIMICA, LA FOTOQUIMICA Y LA QUIMICA HUESPED-ANFITRION. SE PRETENDE DESARROLLAR NUEVOS MATERIALES MAGNETICOS MOLECULARES MULTIFUNCIONALES (MMMMS) QUE PRESENTEN DIFERENTES PROPIEDADES FISICAS A PARTE DE LAS MAGNETICAS Y QUE PUEDAN SER MODIFICADAS MEDIANTE LA APLICACION DE ESTIMULOS EXTERNOS (CORRIENTE ELECTRICA, IRRADIACION DE LUZ O PRESION HIDROSTATICA). NUESTRA ESTRATEGIA EN ESTE CAMPO SE BASA EN EL DISEÑO Y SINTESIS DE COMPLEJOS METALICOS PARAMAGNETICOS "NO INOCENTES" DE LA PRIMERA [M = CU(II), NI(II), CO(II/III), FE(III), MN(III) Y CR(III)], SEGUNDA [M = RU(III) Y MO(V)] Y TERCERA SERIE DE TRANSICION [M = RE(II,IV) Y W(V)] CON LIGANDOS HALUROS [F, CL, BR, I], PSEUDOHALUROS [NCS(-), NCO(-)], DICIANAMIDA, TRICYANOMETHANIDE, CIANURO [NC(-)], PORFIRINATO, IMIDAZOL, PIRAZOL, TRIAZOL, TETRAZOL, POLIPIRIDINAS [R(C5H4N)N], DIOXOLENO, OXALATO Y OXAMATO JUNTO CON CONTRAIONES ORGANICOS QUE POSEAN PROPIEDADES OPTICAS, ELECTRICAS Y/O CONDUCTORAS. LOS COMPLEJOS MONO- Y DINUCLEARES ASI OBTENIDOS SE UTILIZARAN TANTO COMO ¿METALES¿ (APROXIMACION ¿COMPLEJO-COMO-METAL") COORDINANDOSE A LIGANDOS POLIAZINA AROMATICAS PUENTE QUE PRESENTEN PROPIEDADES REDOX O FOTOACTIVAS, ASI COMO COMO ¿METALLOLIGANDS" (APROXIMACION ¿COMPLEJO-COMO-LIGANDO") HACIA OTROS COMPLEJOS METALICOS COORDINATIVAMENTE INSATURADOS O IONES DE METALES DE TRANSICION COMPLETAMENTE SOLVATADOS [M = NI(II), CO(II) Y MN(II)] O LANTANIDOS [LN = PR(III), ND(III), SM(III), EU(III), GD(III), TB(III), DY(III) Y HO(III)] PARA LA PREPARACION DE COMPLEJOS POLINUCLEARES HOMO- Y HETEROMETALICOS Y POLIMEROS DE COORDINACION DE DIFERENTE DIMENSIONALIDAD, NUCLEARIDAD Y TOPOLOGIA. ESTAS DOS ESTRATEGIAS COMPLEMENTARIAS PERMITIRAN OBTENER NUEVAS FAMILIAS DE MATERIALES MAGNETICOS MULTIFUNCIONALES DE BASE MOLECULAR TALES COMO IMANES QUIRALES Y LUMINISCENTES, CONDUCTORES MAGNETICOS ELECTRONICOS Y PROTONICOS, IMANES ELECTRO-, FOTO-, Y PIEZO-CONMUTABLES, IMANES POROSOS Y SENSORES MAGNETICOS CON APLICACIONES POTENCIALES EN NANOTECNOLOGIA, MAGNETISMO MOLECULAR Y ELECTRONICA MOLECULAR. ADEMAS SE VA A PRIORIZAR LA SINTESIS, CARACTERIZACION Y ESTUDIO DE POLIMEROS DE COORDINACION HOMO- Y HETEROMETALICOS CON DISPOSICIONES MULTIDIMENSIONALES (ND, N = 1 ¿ 3) DE CENTROS METALICOS DE LENTA RELAJACION MAGNETICA Y POTENCIALMENTE CONMUTABLES, CON INTERACCIONES MUY DEBILES ENTRE ELLOS (MULTIPLES IMANES MONONUCLEARES, MULTISIMS). ESTOS NUEVOS PROTOTIPOS DE DISPOSITIVOS MAGNETICOS MULTIFUNCIONALES PODRIAN FUNCIONAR COMO MULTI-BITS CUANTICOS (MULTI-QUBITS) ELECTRO- O FOTO-CONMUTABLES ASI COMO PUERTAS CUANTICAS (QGS) PARA SU IMPLEMENTACION EN EL PROCESAMIENTO DE INFORMACION CUANTICA (QIP) EN LOS CAMPOS EMERGENTES DE LA ESPINTRONICA MOLECULAR Y COMPUTACION CUANTICA. FINALMENTE, PERO NO MENOS IMPORTANTE, ALGUNOS EJEMPLOS SELECCIONADOS DE ESTOS SISTEMAS DISCRETOS (N = 0) Y MULTIDIMENSIONALES (N = 1 Y 2) SE DEPOSITARAN COMO PELICULAS DELGADAS SOBRE SUPERFICIES DE ORO O DE SILICIO FUNCIONALIZADAS CON CADENAS ORGANICAS COMO GRUPOS TERMINALES (FRAGMENTOS DE CARBOXILATOS O PIRIDINAS) CON OBJETO DE MEJORAR LA CALIDAD DE LOS IMANES MOLECULARES Y DISPOSITIVOS MAGNETICOS MULTIFUNCIONALES OBTENIDOS PREVIO A SUS APLICACIONES REALES EN NANOTECNOLOGIA. UN IMPORTANTE OBJETIVO SERA EL ESTUDIO DE LAS PROPIEDADES DE TRANSPORTE MAGNETICO Y ELECTRICO DE UNA SIMPLE MOLECULA. (Spanish)

THIS IS A MULTIDISCIPLINARY BASIC RESEARCH PROJECT COVERING COORDINATION CHEMISTRY, MAGNETOQUIMICA, ELECTROQUIMICA, PHOTOQUIMICA AND HOST-HOST CHEMISTRY. THE AIM IS TO DEVELOP NEW MULTIFUNCTIONAL MOLECULAR MAGNETIC MATERIALS (MMMMS) THAT HAVE DIFFERENT PHYSICAL PROPERTIES APART FROM THE MAGNETIC ONES AND THAT CAN BE MODIFIED BY THE APPLICATION OF EXTERNAL STIMULI (ELECTRIC CURRENT, LIGHT IRRADIATION OR HYDROSTATIC PRESSURE). OUR STRATEGY IN THIS FIELD IS BASED ON THE DESIGN AND SYNTHESIS OF “NON-INNOCENT” PARAMAGNETIC METAL COMPLEXES OF THE FIRST [M = CU(II), NI(II), CO(II/III), FAITH(III), MN(III) AND CR(III)], SECOND [M = RU(III) AND MO(V)] AND THIRD TRANSITION SERIES [M = RE(II,IV) AND W(V)] WITH HALID LIGANDS [F, CL, BR, I], PSEUDOHALIDES [NCS(−), NCO(−)], DICYANAMIDE, TRICYANOMETHANIDE, CYANIDE [NC(−)], PORPHIRINATE, IMIDAZOLE, PYRAZOLE, TRIAZOLE, TETRAZOLE, POLIPIRIDINS [R(C5H4N)N], DIOXOLENO, OXALATE AND OXAMATO TOGETHER WITH ORGANIC CONTRAIONS HAVING OPTIC, ELECTRICAL AND/OR CONDUCTIVE PROPERTIES. THE MONO- AND DINUCLEAR COMPLEXES THUS OBTAINED WILL BE USED AS MUCH AS “METALS” (COMPLEX-AS-METAL APPROACH) COORDINATING POLYAZINE BRIDGE AROMATIC LIGANDS WITH REDOX OR PHOTOACTIVE PROPERTIES, AS WELL AS “METALLOLIGANDS” (COMPLEX-AS-LINKING APPROACH) TOWARDS OTHER COORDINATED UNSATURATED METAL COMPLEXES OR COMPLETELY SOLVATED TRANSITION METAL IONS (M = NI(II), CO(II) AND MN(II) OR LANTANIDES (LN = PR(III), ND(III), SM(III), EU(III), GD(III), TB(III), DY(III) AND HO(III)] FOR THE PREPARATION OF HOMO- AND HETEROMETALIC POLYNUCLEAR COMPLEXES AND COORDINATION POLYMERS OF DIFFERENT DIMENSIONALITY, NUCLEARITY AND TOPOLOGY. THESE TWO COMPLEMENTARY STRATEGIES WILL ALLOW TO OBTAIN NEW FAMILIES OF MOLECULAR-BASED MULTIFUNCTIONAL MAGNETIC MATERIALS SUCH AS CHIRAL AND LUMINESCENT MAGNETS, ELECTRONIC AND PROTONICAL MAGNETIC CONDUCTORS, ELECTRO-, PHOTO-, AND PIEZO-COMMUTABLE MAGNETS, POROUS MAGNETS AND MAGNETIC SENSORS WITH POTENTIAL APPLICATIONS IN NANOTECHNOLOGY, MOLECULAR MAGNETISM AND MOLECULAR ELECTRONICS. IN ADDITION, THE SYNTHESIS, CHARACTERISATION AND STUDY OF HOMO- AND HETEROMETALIC COORDINATION POLYMERS WILL BE PRIORITISED WITH MULTIDIMENSIONAL DISPOSITIONS (ND, N = 1) OF METAL CENTERS OF SLOW MAGNETIC RELAXATION AND POTENTIALLY COMMUTABLE, WITH VERY WEAK INTERACTIONS BETWEEN THEM (MULTIPLE MONONUCLEAR MAGNETS, MULTISIMS). THESE NEW PROTOTYPES OF MULTIFUNCTIONAL MAGNETIC DEVICES COULD FUNCTION AS QUANTUM MULTI-BITS (MULTI-QUBITS) ELECTRO- OR PHOTO-CONMUTABLE AS WELL AS QUANTUM DOORS (QGS) FOR IMPLEMENTATION IN QUANTUM INFORMATION PROCESSING (QIP) IN THE EMERGING FIELDS OF MOLECULAR SPINTRONICA AND QUANTUM COMPUTING. FINALLY, BUT NOT LEAST, SOME SELECTED EXAMPLES OF THESE DISCRETE (N = 0) AND MULTIDIMENSIONAL (N = 1 AND 2) SYSTEMS ARE DEPOSITED AS THIN FILMS ON GOLD OR SILICON SURFACES FUNCTIONALISED WITH ORGANIC CHAINS SUCH AS TERMINAL GROUPS (CARBOXYLATE FRAGMENTS OR PYRIDINES) IN ORDER TO IMPROVE THE QUALITY OF MOLECULAR MAGNETS AND MULTIFUNCTIONAL MAGNETIC DEVICES OBTAINED PRIOR TO THEIR ACTUAL APPLICATIONS IN NANOTECHNOLOGY. AN IMPORTANT OBJECTIVE WILL BE THE STUDY OF THE MAGNETIC AND ELECTRICAL TRANSPORT PROPERTIES OF A SIMPLE MOLECULA. (English)
