Se denomina Trastorno del Espectro Autista (TEA) a un conjunto de síntomas derivados de una disfunción del sistema nervioso central, con gran variación del grado de intensidad. Los desórdenes de alimentación en el autismo son: _x000D_ Desórdenes sensoriales (un niño autista no querrá un alimento por su olor, color, temperatura, textura, o cualquier otra cuestión sensorial), _x000D_ Problemas conductuales (a la hora de sentarse a la mesa, manejar cubiertos,...) y problemas físicos (problemas con la masticación y/o deglución, o problemas digestivos)._x000D_ Problemas de malnutrición en niños y adolescentes con autismo, desde obesidad a carencias nutricionales, así como la hiperselectividad alimenticia o la dieta hiperrestrictiva._x000D_ Todo esto conduce a problemas relacionados con el aparato digestivo en la población con TEA, denominados trastornos funcionales digestivos entre los que destacan problemas gastrointestinales crónicos, alteraciones en la microbiota, hipersensibilidad, alergias e intolerancias alimentarias, mala absorción intestinal que conduce a deficiencias vitamínicas y de ácidos grasos esenciales (¿-3 y ¿-6) y efectos opiáceos de algunos componentes de cereales y leche de vaca._x000D_ En el presente proyecto, PRONAT pretende elaborar, tomando como base los semielaborados de tomate, un alimento saludable rico en prebióticos vegetales, que además contenga probióticos, así como otros compuestos funcionales como son antioxidantes y vitaminas. _x000D_ El objetivo es incluirlo en una dieta para personas con trastorno del espectro autista, y valorar su influencia sobre la interacción entre el sistema digestivo y el sistema nervioso de las personas con TEA, con el fin mejorar su calidad de vida._x000D_ La estrategia final es la industrialización de los procesos necesarios para la obtención de los alimentos adaptados, lo que permitirá ampliar la cartera de productos de PRONAT, con posibilidades de acceder a un nicho de mercado novedoso y emergente, con necesidades específicas.
