IN THIS PROJECT WE INTEND TO STUDY THIS FLOW BASED ON A PREVIOUS REVIEW OF THE BIOMASS OF ZOOPLANKTON IN THE ZONES EPI, MESO- AND BATIPELAGICAS, OBTAINED THROUGH NETWORKS AND THAT SHOW A RELATIONSHIP WITH PRIMARY PRODUCTION, INDICATING THAT THERE IS A TRANSPORT OF CARBON TO THE DEEPEST LAYERS OF THE OCEAN. CARBON SEQUESTRATION EVALUATED ONLY BY CONSERVATIVE ESTIMATES OF ZOOPLANKTON MORTALITY IN THE 1000-2000 M LAYER WAS IN THE ORDER OF RECENT ESTIMATES OF GRAVITATIONAL CARBON FLOW. THIS FLOW BY THE ZOOPLANKTON CORRELATES WITH THE LARGE-SCALE ESTIMATES OF PRIMARY PRODUCTION, WHICH IMPLIES THE TRANSFER OF A SIGNIFICANT FRACTION OF THE PRIMARY PRODUCTION FROM THE EPIPELAGIC ZONE TO THE DEPTHS OF THE OCEAN.
