La EDAR existente en el término municipal de Avilés se construyó en el año 2000 con la filosofía de vertido a zona sensible. Posteriormente, se produjo un cambio de catalogación de la costa asturiana, siendo actualmente zona de vertido normal._x000D_ Es necesario mejorar la instalación, dotándola de tratamiento secundario, para cumplir con las condiciones de vertido a zona normal de una aglomeración de más de 150.000 hb-eq. La EDAR da servicio al tratamiento de las aguas residuales de Avilés, Castrillón, Corvera y Gozón, vertiendo las aguas tratadas al mar Cantábrico a través del emisario submarino de Xagó. (Spanish)
