EN EL PROYECTO ESTAN DIRECTAMENTE INVOLUCRADOS TRES HOSPITALES, ASEGURANDO LA TRANSFERENCIA DE ESTA TECNOLOGIA AL SISTEMA DE SALUD._x000D_ EL PROYECTO SERA REALIZADO POR UN EQUIPO PLURIDISCIPLINAR (14 INGENIEROS Y 4 CLINICOS QUE APORTARAN LA INTERPRETACION MEDICA DE LOS RESULTADOS; 15 PHD). OTRO ASPECTO RELEVANTE ES LA INTERNACIONALIZACION Y EXCELENCIA DE LOS RESULTADOS GRACIAS A LA PARTICIPACION DE 6 CONOCIDOS INVESTIGADORES EXTRANJEROS. DISABLING NEUROLOGICAL DISORDERS ARE DISEASES OR INJURIES OF THE CENTRAL NERVOUS SYSTEM (CNS) THAT CAUSE IMPAIRMENT OF ANY PART OF THE BODY. THEY INCLUDE DISEASES OF BOTH CENTRAL AND PERIPHERAL NERVOUS SYSTEMS SUCH AS EPILEPSY AND STROKE._x000D_ IN FOCAL REFRACTORY EPILEPSY, SURGERY IS RECOMMENDED TO REMOVE THE AREA CAUSING SEIZURES. CANDIDATES FOR SURGERY UNDERGO EXTENSIVE PRESURGERY EVALUATION. THE USE OF MULTIMODAL INFORMATION AND THE AUTOMATIC DETECTION OF INNOVATIVE BIOMARKERS COULD HELP TO BETTER LOCALIZE THE EPILEPTOGENIC ZONE AND TO IDENTIFY THE EPILEPTOGENIC NETWORKS. ON THE OTHER HAND, ONE OF THE MAIN SHORTCOMINGS IN NEUROREHABILITATION IS THAT NOT ALL STROKE PATIENTS ARE ABLE TO RESTITUTE MUSCULAR FUNCTION. PROGNOSIS FOR SUCCESS DURING THE ACUTE PHASE WOULD PROVIDE CLINICIANS WITH NEW STRATEGIES FOR REHABILITATION._x000D_ THE PROJECT AIMS AT THE DEVELOPMENT OF NEW METHODS AND E-HEALTH SYSTEMS FOR EVALUATING IMPAIRMENTS IN NEUROLOGICAL DISABLING DISORDERS BASED ON A MULTIMODAL APPROACH, CONSIDERING INFORMATION OF NEUROLOGICAL, CARDIORESPIRATORY AND MUSCULAR ORIGIN._x000D_ THUS, THE MAIN OBJECTIVE IS TWOFOLD: 1) THE DEVELOPMENT OF TOOLS FOR IDENTIFICATION OF EPILEPTIC REGIONS AND SEIZURE PROPAGATION NETWORKS IN CHILDHOOD REFRACTORY EPILEPSY, INCLUDING MULTIMODAL NEUROIMAGING INFORMATION DURING THE PRESURGICAL EVALUATION PROTOCOL AND DURING ELECTRICAL STIMULATION; AND 2) TO DEVELOP A COMPUTER ASSISTED MONITORING ENVIRONMENT DURING REHABILITATION BASED ON NEUROMUSCULAR PARAMETERS FROM MULTIMODAL EXPERIMENTAL DATA, WHICH WILL PROVIDE A USEFUL TOOL FOR SUPPORTING CLINICAL DECISIONS IN THE TREATMENT AND REHABILITATION PROCESSES AFTER STROKE._x000D_ THIS PROJECT WILL JOINTLY ASSESS EMG AND EEG DATA DURING REHABILITATION THERAPY IN ORDER TO FIND APPROPRIATE PARAMETERS THAT REFLECT PATIENT'S ADVANCEMENT TO STROKE RECOVERY._x000D_ REGARDING EPILEPSY, THE PROJECT PROPOSES THE RECORDING OF A MULTIMODAL DATABASE, THE ANALYSIS AND TIME-COURSE STUDY OF EPILEPTIC-RELATED AREAS AND THE PROPAGATION NETWORKS FOR PRESURGICAL EVALUATION OF THE YOUNG BRAIN. ADDITIONALLY, AN ANALYSIS OF DIFFERENT STIMULATION STRATEGIES AND THE CARDIORESPIRATORY CHANGES IN ICTAL AND POSTICTAL PHASES WILL BE CARRIED OUT._x000D_ DURING REHABILITATION OF STROKE PATIENTS, A COMPUTER ASSISTED MONITORING ENVIRONMENT, INCLUDING A NEW MEASUREMENT PROTOCOL AND INSTRUMENTATION, WILL BE DESIGNED AND DEVELOPED. A DATABASE OF SIMULTANEOUS HIGH-DENSITY EMG AND EEG, ALONG WITH CLINICAL MEASURES WILL BE RECORDED. CORTICAL AND CORTICOSPINAL PATHWAYS WILL BE ASSESSED BY MEANS OF TRANSCRANIAL MAGNETIC STIMULATION AND CORTICOMUSCULAR COHERENCE._x000D_ A COMPUTER SUPPORT SYSTEM INCLUDING THE TOOLS DEVELOPED IN THE PROJECT WILL BE DESIGNED TO BE USEFUL FOR OBJECTIVE EVALUATION OF THE OUTCOME OF STROKE NEUROREHABILITATION PROCESS AND THE PRESURGICAL ASSESSMENT IN EARLY CHILDHOOD EPILEPSY. THREE HOSPITALS WILL BE DIRECTLY INVOLVED IN THE PROJECT AND WILL ENSURE THE TRANSLATION OF THE DEVELOPED TECHNOLOGIES TO THE HEALTH CARE SYSTEM. _x000D_ _x000D_ _x000D_ THE PROJECT WILL BE CARRIED OUT BY A PLURIDISCIPLINARY TEAM (14 ENGINEERS AND 4 CLINICIANS WHO WILL PROVIDE PHYSIOLOGICAL AND MEDICAL INTERPRETATION OF THE RESULTS; 15 PHD). ANOTHER RELEVANT ISSUE IS THE INTERNATIONALITY AND EXCELLENCE OF THE RESULTS THANKS TO PARTICIPATION OF 6 WELL KNOWN FOREIGN RESEARCHERS. THE APPLICANT TEAM HAS ALSO EXPERIENCE LEADING A EUROPEAN H2020 PROJECT. FINALLY, 5 COMPANIES HAVE SHOWN THEIR INTEREST IN TRANSFERRING OF RESULTS AND IN THEIR COMMERCIAL EXPLOITATION. (English)
