Realization of this project contributes to the achievement of the overall aim of the Programme– support for cross-border development processes in the borderland of Poland, Belarus and Ukraine. Implementation of the project has an impact on achieving two ENPI CBC strategic objectives for cross-border activities: A.Promote economic and social development in regions on both sides of common borders B.Address common challenges in environment, public health, safety and security. The overall objective of the project is preventing the spread of human an animal deceases in Volynska oblast (Ukraine) and Lublin voivodeship (Poland) by modernization of the sewage system in the area of Shatsk lakes. Thanks to the development of sewer network and sewage treatment plants in the settlements round the Lake Svityaz, flow of polluted sewage to subsoil waters will decrease by 80%, which will reduce the pollution of Shatsk National Natural Park lakes and basins of the Western Bug and Prypiat. The main results of the project are: - improve sanitary-and-epidemiological situation in the area of Shatsk lakes by reducing the level of polluting substances in sewage; - enhanced access of the cross-border region population to sanatorium treatment and health resorts; - decreased level of seasonal diseases caused by polluted water; - raised general level of the population and vacationers’ water-using culture. Implementation of the project will be to the benefit of: - the inhabitants of the cross-border region, - visitors of health resorts, - patients of sanatoriums, - participants of the events organized to support the development of social services. The cross-border approach is aimed at combining efforts of beneficiaries to improve the sanitary-and-epidemiological situation of the biosphere reserve “Western Polissia”. (Polish)
