The area is now overwhelmed by elements that constitute obstacles and visual disturbances, preventing the free movement of pedestrians and visually polluting the environment, such as urban equipment elements (waste bins, traffic barriers, signs). The redevelopment proposal attempts to revise their position and design, to organise them to be real service elements of functional and aesthetic value.
Priority is the safe and comfortable passage of pedestrians and the service of passing persons. Elementary for this purpose is the effort to maximise the surface of the space attributed to pedestrians, leaving to the vehicles the minimum space required to serve the traffic, stop and parking. In this way the impact of the most important of urban disturbances today in the study area, the unregulated domination of the space by cars, is significantly mitigated. More generally, the whole regulation of the area’s organisation has as its basic principle the improvement of the quality of the urban environment and consequently the quality of life of the residents, the discharge of the area from the unnecessary traffic of the car, the organisation of the movement of pedestrians and the return of the city’s free spaces to its inhabitants, as well as the preservation – promotion and utilisation of the particular advantages and characteristics of the city. The general design of the design projects, the morphology of the coating materials, the urban equipment, the lighting network and the plantings, are adapted to the new uses of the roads, by increasing the spaces intended for the movement of pedestrians and reducing the width of the circulating part of the roads.
For the proposed layout of the roads, take into account the specifications for the regeneration of shared spaces “Designing for all” (in Greek) and the decision of the Ministry of the Environment.

(Greek)
