The object of the project is the redevelopment of Agios Panteleimonos Square and the widening of pedestrian traffic along the streets of Pepinou, Alcibiadou and Agorakritos in the 6th DK of the Municipality of Athens. With the completion of this project, a substantial improvement of the urban environment is expected, with emphasis on the protection and promotion of elements of the public cultural heritage that exist in the intervention area. In particular: The emergence of a landmark with a translocal scope, i.e. the monumental I.N. Agios Panteleimon, which is considered the largest in the Balkans. The implementation of this project is of high priority, due to phenomena of degradation and crisis (violence, incidents of conflict, removal of businesses, empty shops and homes) in recent years, which have been reinforced by the low quality of the public space and also enhance it. With the regeneration of the square and the surrounding streets, focusing on the emergence of the existing cultural heritage, it is expected to highlight existing long-term qualities, which will help reverse the negative reality for the residents and businesses of the immediate and wider region. Αντικείμενο του έργου αποτελεί η ανάπλαση της πλατείας Αγίου Παντελεήμονος και η διαπλάτυνση των χώρων κίνησης πεζών κατά μήκος των οδών Πιπίνου, Αλκιβιάδου και Αγορακρίτου στην 6η Δ.Κ. του Δήμου Αθηναίων. Με την ολοκλήρωση του συγκεκριμένου έργου αναμένεται ουσιαστική βελτίωση του αστικού περιβάλλοντος, με έμφαση στην προστασία και προβολή στοιχείων της δημόσιας πολιτιστικής κληρονομιάς που υπάρχουν στην περιοχή παρέμβασης. Ειδικότερα: Την ανάδειξη ενός τοπόσημου με υπερτοπική εμβέλεια, δηλαδή του μνημειακού Ι.Ν. Αγίου Παντελεήμονα, ο οποίος θεωρείται ο μεγαλύτερος των Βαλκανίων. Η υλοποίηση του συγκεκριμένου έργου είναι υψηλής προτεραιότητας, λόγω φαινομένων υποβάθμισης και κρίσης (παραβατικότητα, περιστατικά συγκρούσεων, απομάκρυνση επιχειρήσεων, κενά καταστήματα και κατοικίες) των τελευταίων ετών, τα οποία ενισχύονται από την χαμηλή ποιότητα του δημόσιου χώρου και αλλά και την ενισχύουν. Με την ανάπλαση της πλατείας και των γύρω δρόμων, με επίκεντρο την ανάδειξη της υπάρχουσας πολιτιστικής κληρονομιάς, αναμένεται να τονιστούν υπάρχουσες διαχρονικές ποιότητες, οι οποίες θα βοηθήσουν να αντιστραφεί η αρνητική πραγματικότητα για τους κατοίκους και τις επιχειρήσεις της άμεσης και ευρύτερης περιοχής.
