In Kalmar, the university is spread out in a number of different places around the city. The university has about 2000 employees and 31,000 students, of which approximately 14,000 full-year students. It is therefore close to 16 000 people who regularly get to and from one of the two university areas. Every day, a large number of employees travel between the two cities. A major challenge lies in shifting travel to and from the two university areas in a more sustainable direction, including increasing the share of travel by bicycle, reduced car use and thereby reducing carbon dioxide emissions, improved health and the creation of more attractive city centres. In connection with two major construction projects – a new station area in Växjö and a completely new university area in Kalmar municipality, a unique opportunity to develop and test new solutions in terms of, for example, strategic planning of surrounding areas and access routes for bicycles; Demonstration of innovative technical solutions that help to make bike trips – in combination with collective transport – fast, simple and comfortable; Information, training and campaigns that are directly linked to planned and implemented changes in the physical conditions for sustainable travel. In the preliminary study “Energy Efficient Transports Kalmar Växjö and Lnu” Kalmar and Växjö Municipality collaborates with Linnaeus University and construction sector to prepare a joint implementation project with the overall goal is that all transports when travelling to and from the new city-integrated university in Kalmar, the new travel centre in Växjö and Linnaeus University’s campus area in Växjö will be FOSSILBRANDLEFRIA by 2030. The work in the feasibility study will be focused on the following targets: 1. Create a picture of traffic flows in the bicycle paths that lead to and from the new LNU area in Kalmar as well as to and from Växjö’s new travel center. 2. Investigate the prerequisites for bicycle-promoting innovations in two areas: The new campus in Kalmar and the new travel centre in Växjö. 3. Develop the current situation description of the travel habits among Linnaeus University’s students and staff in 4. Give inspiration to and raise knowledge within the project group, linked to the work towards goals 2 and 4 the feasibility study partners/medfinanists will explore the possibility of development of regionally based business related to services, mobility management and technical innovations that promote sustainable travel.     Linnéuniversitetet (Lnu) är ett universitet beläget i två städer; Kalmar och Växjö. I Växjö är universitetet samlat på ett campus, ett stort universitetsområde ett par kilometer utanför Växjö centrum. I Kalmar är universitetet idag utspritt på en rad olika platser runtom i staden. Universitetet har ca 2000 anställda och 31 000 studenter, varav ca 14 000 helårsstudenter. Det är alltså närmare 16 000 personer som regelbundet ska ta sig till och från något av de båda universitetsområdena. Varje dag reser dessutom ett stort antal medarbetare mellan de båda städerna. En stor utmaning ligger i att ställa om resandet till och från de båda universitetsområdena i en mer hållbar riktning, bland annat genom öka andelen resor med cykel, minskad bilanvändning och därigenom minskade koldioxidutsläpp, förbättrad hälsa och skapandet av mer attraktiva stadskärnor. I samband med två stora byggprojekt - nytt stationsområde i Växjö och ett helt nytt universitetsområde i Kalmar kommun ges en unik chans att utveckla och testa nya lösningar när det gäller t.ex. strategisk planering av omgivande områden och tillfartsvägar för cykel; Demonstration av innovativa tekniska lösningar som bidrar till att göra cykelresor - i kombination med kollektiva transporter - snabba, enkla och bekväma; Information, utbildning och kampanjer som är direkt kopplade till planerade och genomförda förändringar i de fysiska förutsättningarna för hållbart resande. I förstudien "Energieffektiva transporter Kalmar Växjö och Lnu" sammarbetar Kalmar och Växjö kommun med Linnéuniversitetet och byggsektor för att förbereda ett gemensamt genomförandeprojekt med det övergripande målet är att alla transporter vid resor till och från det nya stadsintegrerade universitetet i Kalmar, det nya Resecentrat i Växjö samt Linnéuniversitetets campusområde i Växjö ska vara fossilbränslefria år 2030. Arbetet i förstudien kommer att fokuseras på följande delmål: 1. Skapa bild av trafikflöden i de cykelstråk som leder till och från det nya LNU området i Kalmar samt till och från Växjös nya resecentrum. 2. Undersöka förutsättningarna för cykelfrämjande innovationer inom två områden: Det nya universitetsområdet i Kalmar och det nya resecentrumet i Växjö. 3. Ta fram Nulägesbeskrivning av resvanorna bland Linnéuniversitetets studenter och medarbetare 4. Ge inspiration till och höja kunskapen inom projektgruppen, kopplat till arbetet mot mål 2 och 4 kommer förstudiens partners/medfinanisärer undersöka möjligheten till utveckling av regionalt baserat företagande kopplat till tjänster, mobility management och tekniska innovationer som främjar hållbart resande.
