Krkonošské muzeum je paměťovou institucí uchovávající poznatky o vývoji Krkonoš a o životě v krkonošském regionu. Jednotlivé pobočky muzea (Vrchlabí, Jilemnice, Paseky nad Jizerou a Harrachov) pro uchování sbírkových předmětů používají vlastní depozitáře v místě muzea - na půdě, v podkroví, v kancelářích. Depozitáře bohužel nesplňují požadované podmínky pro uložení sbírkových předmětů. Realizace projektu počítá s rekonstrukcí stávající budovy na depozitář vč. zřízení zázemí odborných pracovišť.
