The Centre National de la Mer — Nausicaa, aquarium and scientific and technical culture centre, which has been set up since 1991 currently has 5 000 m³ of catchment areas, is home to 36 000 marine creatures and is an essential place to discover the fauna and flora of the world’s marine environment. As a tool for economic development and attraction for the territory, Nausicaa has also become a key national and international element in the education and occupation of world knowledge on the oceans and the associated major challenges. In order to consolidate this development, it is now necessary to renew its visit stream, to increase its reception capacity and its attractiveness. In addition to improving the media library in the context of the Learning Centre and the renovation of existing areas and basins, the extension project provides for the creation of two new poles of major attraction: — ‘The country of the aurères’, comprising 4 ponds for walruses and a catchment area for manchots, ‘Aventure en Haute Mer’, diving in the ocean and the abyss around the largest catchment area in Europe of almost 10.000 m³. The construction of these new spaces will lead to a doubling of the surface of the equipment (from 25 466.58 m² to 45 995.08 m²) and a total of 20.000 m³ to 5.000 m³ today. (English)
