The main objective of the project is to protect and use the cultural heritage of the historic buildings of the tram depot of the Museum of Urban Engineering in Krakow for the development of a modern cultural and educational offer. The museum is located in the UNESCO World Heritage Site and recognised by the President of the Republic of Poland as a Monument to History. The subject of the project is the reconstruction and expansion of the historic tram depot complex, including works consisting of making cellars accessible to visitors, which were not yet adapted to the conduct of cultural activities. In addition, the project includes comprehensive maintenance of movable technical monuments – three trams, modernisation of permanent exhibitions and purchase of equipment for conducting cultural activities. A significant increase in the exhibition space will allow the preparation of new permanent exhibitions (pn. “City Engineering yesterday and today”, “Industry and Crafts”, “Communicating...”, an exhibition on the history of automotive industry and automotive culture in Poland) and creating conditions for simultaneous presentation of temporary exhibitions (four thematic blocks: “Great Modernity”, “City Again”, “Open Museum”, “Museum of Me”. The museum will be able to organise cultural and educational events on a much larger scale than before. In addition, two permanent exhibitions, which are so far in MIM’s offer, will be modernised to meet the needs of customers even more. Through the implementation of these tasks, it will be possible to conduct a rich cultural and educational programme of supraregional importance, improving the quality of participation in culture, which will at the same time allow for strengthening the cultural competences of residents and the development of the cultural identity of society. As a result of the project, the number of visits is planned to increase by 69,624 people per year, to 151,897 visits per year. (English)

(Polish)
