The project meets the serious problems faced by dairy farmers. Dairy cattle are exposed to a number of factors affecting their health. The biggest threat to breeders of these animals, causing significant economic losses, is mastitis, which is the most common affliction of dairy cows. The incidence of mastitis in herds reared in Poland is 50 % (Barański et al., 2008). In the face of such a serious problem, Proteon Pharmaceuticals SA proposes to develop a bacteriophagic preparation active against mastitis-inducing pathogens, especially multidrug resistant. Realisation of the project’s objectives will be possible by collecting a collection of bacteriophages isolated from environmental samples and selecting lytic bacteriophages with a broad spectrum of action and developing the composition of the bacteriophage mixture (phagog coctail) based on their complementary action. Knowing the composition of the bacteriophage preparation, the next step will be to develop a method of production of individual components, taking into account the stage(s) of “downstream proccessing”, which will allow the development of a technological process. At this stage, genetically modified production strains are planned to produce a high-performance production process. The product produced will be tested for the safety and effectiveness of the use of bacteriophagic cocktail in cows. The final stage of the work will be the preparation of production technology and product for implementation. (English)

Wyprodukowany preparat poddany zostanie badaniom nad bezpieczeństwem i efektywnością stosowania koktajlu bakteriofagowego u krów. Ostatnim etapem prac będzie przygotowanie technologii produkcyjnej i produktu do wdrożenia. (Polish)
