The overall objective of the project is to improve cross-border healthcare towards a patient-centered medicine through joint actions over an 18-month period. Alarming statistics on patient compliance (e.g., 50% of patients do not take prescribed medication or take it incorrectly) have led to increased interest in investigating the issue. Studies show that one of the essential factors lies in the physician-patient relationship. Thus, effective communication doctor-patient is the foundation on which the new tendency in healthcare emerged: the patient-centered medicine. Patient-centered medicine is developing alongside the concepts of personalized medicine and tailored therapeutics. Patient-centered medicine implies a paradigm shift in the relationship between doctors and patients based on the ethical principle of patients’ autonomy, where patients have more and better information and take a more active role in making decisions that affect them. These changes are reflected by the principle of “nothing about me without me” (Sacristan, 2013). Accomplishing the general objective will contribute positively to the program’s result indicator RI 411 – Number of newly registeres cases of illness. Low numbers of patient’s compliance is associated with inefficient treatment which leads to aggravation of the disease and apparition of related comorbidities. The project envisage improving patient’s compliance through a series of joint actions, formulated as specific objectives. The specific objectives are based on the most fundamental conditions that need to be met in order to achieve an effective communication. Moreover, they are the essential elements of a hospital that provides high-quality medical services. SO 1 – Safe – Conducting renovation works for modernization of the infrastructure premises for 3 buildings in 17 months. SO 2 – Trust – Purchase of 79 new medical equipments and instruments for diagnosis and intervention in 10 months. SO 3 – Openess – Organization of multiple series of specialised workshops on communication for all hospitals’ personnel that interacts with the patients – 761 people in 14 months. The project is in fully coherence with the local, national and international strategies. Lately, more and more EU strategies adopt the patient-centered medicine as a core value and strategic objective for development of health, as the National Strategy for Development of Health 2014-2020 Romania and State Strategy for the Regional Development Ukraine.
