The main idea of this seed money project is to help the uptake of renewable district heating systems based on biomass and solar in the South-east part of Danube region, that way switching from the currently used fossil fuel based heating systems. Due to its scope, the project is addressing the EUSDR Priority Area 2: Sustainable Energy. The topic being tackled is Topic 2 – Promotion of RES: More efficient use of RES. Furthermore, since the main project will promote and implement biomass and solar based district heating systems in target cities in Romania, Croatia and Serbia, starting from public buildings representing local demonstration projects, it will contribute to the following EUSDR actions and targets: Action - “To extend the use of biomass (e.g. wood, waste), solar energy, geothermal, hydropower and wind power” Action - “To explore the possibility to have an increased energy production originating from local renewable energy sources to increase the energy autonomy”. Action - “To promote energy efficiency and use of renewable energy in buildings and heating systems including by renovating district heating and combined heat and power facilities as required by Energy Performance of the Buildings Directive and Renewable Energy Directive” Action - “To facilitate networking and cooperation between national authorities in order to promote awareness and increase the use of renewable energies. Target – “To help to achieve the national targets based on the Europe 2030 climate and energy targets” Target – “To remove existing bottlenecks in energy to fulfil the goals of the Energy Union within the Danube Region” Target – “To better interconnect regions by joint activities with relevant initiatives and institutions Partners” (English)
