Despite the constant support of rural areas, it has not been possible to reduce the depopulation of the country, especially in peripheries and on the edge of our regions in the Czech-Austrian border area. This trend is especially visible in the border area. One of the promising ways to preserve life in the countryside is the current field of digitalization. In both countries, we draw from more than 15 years of experience with Gemeinde 21 and village renewal. Our goal is to improve life in the countryside and in the Czech-Austrian border area by improving the access of residents and communities to digital technologies and to determine which applications can be used for communication with residents for joint planning of area development. Today's trend is a large amount of information transferred to the municipal level. Their practical use and transfer of concrete examples of good practice proven in the Czech or Austrian municipalities are still missing. Due to the lack of digital competences, which could contribute to the management and improvement of life in municipalities, digital technologies are not used safely (their technical characteristics, but also the content). In our project we want to identify the digital solutions that can help to stop negative trends of demographic change and depopulation of the country in the border areas, using the usual communication of residents with the public administration, which is currently changing from personal negotiations to the Internet.
