Digitalization is driving and significantly shaping our society today. It is creating new opportunities and new ways of approaching old challenges. The amount of jobs and tasks that can be completed by computers and robots are increasing, which in turn creates new occupations as well as changes in organizations. This shift affects the fundamentals in our society, everything from democracy, social interactions, occupations, local and regional development, sustainable development to competitiveness of countries worldwide. For our society to be able to successfully adjust to this change, further education and training in digital technology is required to raise the competency in this area. Individuals leaving their old jobs for new ones, will need adequate support to do so. It is crucial that we offer qualitative digital training and skills development now, or we risk people ending up too far from the job market and causing businesses to close. Currently, small and medium-sized businesses in Sweden are not utilizing all the possibilities that digitalization can provide. Some businesses are simply too far behind with their digital skills and mindset. With this project, we aim to give individuals the option to maintain and grow their position on the job market through digital training and activities such as courses, boot camps and seminars, supporting this development. Furthermore, we want to support organizations and leaders working with innovation management, equality and diversity. Making these crucial efforts now, will allow for Sweden to continue leading the way and finding innovative approaches through digitalization. When we talk about digital competence, we look at the challenges from different viewpoints. We want to create paths into digital development and education in such way, that it will support individuals in obtaining and maintaining an employment, enable start- ups and running of businesses and strengthen organizations’ and businesses capacity for innovation and competitiveness. Värmland has its own specific challenges, such as lack of workforce, to increase the occupational possibilities for skilled individuals from different nationalities and to prevent long- term unemployment in the county. There is a genuine need to address the competence levels in digitalization and technology. Jobs and areas of work are now expecting a basic knowledge in digital tools, whilst the demand for competence for more manual and repetitive works tasks are decreasing. Research has shown that particularly female white-collar workers will be affected by this shift and the fast-paced digital development may act as a disadvantage for them. Going forward, we believe that women’s interest in jobs within digital and technology sector could see a significant increase. Women are also more prone to obtain further professional training, in comparison to men. Therefore, we believe it is important that we can offer attractive education and training to meet the futures needs within this field. The Covid-19 pandemic has added another sense of urgency to structural changes and digitalization on the job market. Compare’s aim is to collectively strengthen and enable Värmland to become an attractive digital region. We believe we will achieve this by driving ventures within three strategic areas: digital business development, digital competence development and digital innovation. All three are closely connected to digital competence development. Our collective experience and knowledge within these areas is our strength, in executing a project such as this. Within the project, we have identified some areas for competence-enhancing initiatives, where we need to put extra effort into educational initiatives. These are advanced training in programming, basic training in digital marketing and sales and digital working methods, Innovation Management and horizontal principles and sustainability. The educational focus will be directed to both employees as well as business owners, women and men, regardless of employment contract and small and medium-sized businesses in Värmland. We will not focus on a specific sector of the job market. This allows us to offer these services to more people in need of developing their skills. Our aim is for the individual to strengthen their position on the market, support businesses to drive innovation within their organizations and to contribute to a sustainable job market as well as life-long learning.

(Dutch)

(Italian)
