Projekto tikslui pasiekti numatyta sudaryti sąlygas nepertraukiamam automobilių ir traukinių eismo judėjimui, eismo saugos ir gyventojų saugumo didinimui. Įgyvendinant projektą bus panaikinti esami vieno lygio automobilių kelio susikirtimai su geležinkelio keliu Gedimino ir Aušros gatvėse, bus įrengiami tuneliai po geležinkeliu ir jų prieigos. Tikimasi, kad įgyvendinus projektą bus atlikta dviejų lygių sankirtų su geležinkeliu ir jų prieigų Marijampolės miesto Gedimino ir Aušros gatvėse rekonstrukcija – panaikinti du vieno lygio automobilių kelių susikirtimai su geležinkeliu ir iš esmės pagerinta pėsčiųjų ir automobilių eismo sauga ir saugumas.
