Property / summary

In a changing society, Library De Lage Beemden is looking for a new definition of its role. As a result of reading and digitisation, the number of members and lending is decreasing. So we're looking for other ways to shape our role in society: As a partner of education to promote reading skills and enjoyment, media literacy and cultural education, programming activities that promote knowledge and participation, as a place where citizens meet. This new implementation of our role requires different competences and a different involvement of our employees. Seeing and exploiting opportunities to reposition the library is an essential prerequisite for the sustainability of our library. Entrepreneurship/creative power is therefore important for the sustainable employability of our employees. In 2017, Library De Lage Beemden therefore wants to work on stimulating creative power (entrepreneurial behaviour) among all staff of the library. Competences associated with creative power include Self-confidence, Market Orientation, Creativity, Performance Orientation and Business Acting. These are competences that are essential for working in the library of the future. These competences are intended to stimulate the library’s staff. That’s what we're doing: during the project we will work on test beds. Employees (from a shared vision of what we stand for as a Library) develop a product or service that responds to the demand in our field of work. Preferably in collaboration with a relevant partner. The objective of the project is that in a year’s time the creative power/entrepreneurship of our employees has been increased. This is reflected in the following results in 2017: • 75 % of employees score higher on entrepreneurial competence effectiveness/self-confidence than at the start of the project. • 75 % of employees score higher on at least one of the other entrepreneurial competences than at the start of the project. • 2 concrete activities have been developed from and by the employees who shape entrepreneurship.
