Property / summary

The project that Karlskoga Folk High School is seeking funds for aims to facilitate entry into the labor market for newly arrived women and men with diversified problems. The challenges identified are found both in the individual and in the surrounding community. Examples of challenges among the target group at the individual level is education, linguistic ability, health and age. Examples of challenges at the structural and organizational level is the inability to collaborate between and within authorities, divergent regulations and complicated procedures, but also in normative attitudes, conceptions and ignorance. The project will include these two perspectives. Structural discrimination, which is a consequence of the challenges at the societal level, means that individuals belonging to certain target groups are discriminated by prevailing systems and norms. Therefore, the problem analysis of the project is not based primarily on quantifiable data on the target group's employment rate, but on the basis of reports and research on discrimination at structural and organizational level. The project's approach is to see the target group as a resource. In addition to acquiring new knowledge, participants will also contribute important perspectives to the project's collaborative partners. The project's collaboration partners will contribute knowledge to the participants and the participants will contribute knowledge to the collaboration partners. Participants will receive teaching, conduct study visits and collaborate practically with working life. As part of the project, the collaboration partners will be able to take part in skills-enhancing efforts based on the participants' perspectives and the project's results. A key part of the project idea is the dialogue meetings that will be arranged. At these, the participants of the project will be able to meet professional representatives from the collaboration partners, and vice versa. The project's collaborative partners, Karlskoga Municipality, Degerfors Municipality, IF Metall Östra Värmland and Region Örebro County, contribute with anchoring and important networks to various sectors of working life. The collaboration partners will participate with representatives in the working group, dialogue meetings and skills-enhancing training efforts. Karlskoga Folkhögskola has the expertise and experience of working with the target group and running projects in collaboration with other parties. Karlskoga folk high school is situated in available premises. The school has a social worker, special educator and special educational resources. Karlskoga Folkhögskola has an agreement with SPSM (Special Education School Authority) which provides access to special education technology such as scanning and audio reading of text material. The school's curator and special educator are resources that will also be available to project participants. Structural discrimination makes the target group's entry into the labor market more difficult. According to DO, discrimination can take place on the basis of gender, gender identity or expression, ethnic affiliation, religion or other beliefs, disability, sexual orientation and age. Discrimination based on gender creates reduced gender equality, discrimination based on disability creates reduced accessibility. The fact that women are particularly affected is confirmed by the fact that their employment rate is lower than that of men. The target group's high degree of ill health creates reduced accessibility. The project will focus, first on identifying, and creating awareness about, structural discrimination, then taking action with the aim of contributing to increased equality and accessibility.
