Cloud manufacturing (CM) -hankkeessa valmistellaan tuotantoon liittyvän pilvipalvelualustan kaupallistamista. Erityisenä kohteena on ohutlevyn valmistukseen liittyvät prosessit. Perinteisten tuotannollisten menetelmiä kehitetään digitalisaation keinoin. Uudet pilvipohjaiset suunnittelu-valmistus-ratkaisut lisäävät tuottavuutta ja mahdollistavat onnistuessaan elinkeinoelämän uudistamista. Kehityksessä tausta on koneiden ja tuotantojärjestelmien älykkyyden lisääminen ja uusien pilviperustaisten suunnittelumentelmien käyttöönotto. Kustannustehokkaat piensarjavalmistukset luovat pohjaa uusille liiketoimintamalleja pienemmille yrityksille. Projektin tavoitteena on saada selvä etenemismalli suunnitellun ratkaisun kaupallistamiselle pilotoimalla oikeassa ympäristössä (Proof of Concept) ja selvittämällä liiketoiminnan mahdollisuudet.
