Materials and their function are an important factor in our daily lives. The surface of the materials is typically made of polymers, the properties of which can be mastered and tailored for a variety of applications. The performance of surface materials often plays a critical role in the competitiveness of products and their physical and environmental safety. This project explores the behaviour of polymer surfaces in water and ice interfaces and seeks new industrial solutions for the application of phenomena. The project consists of two broad work packages: optimisation and self-cleaning of surfaces, functionalisation of rubber interfaces and development of tyre functionality. The work packages combine understanding the management of basic phenomena in applications where practical solutions also benefit industrial product development. New polymer lubrication technologies and improvements in the wet grip and aqueous properties of passenger car tyres will be developed in practice. The general objective of the activity is to transfer information to industrial partners and to create the conditions for new business areas. (English) | |||||||||||||||

(Finnish)
