The Campus 3 project responds to the concrete need from the field to develop and create models and practices to ensure that students in vocational education and upper secondary education and secondary education on a common campus are attached to and progressed during their studies. The aim of the project is to develop a common operational culture between staff and students working and studying in the same physical learning and operational environment. The project is implemented jointly by Tampere University of Applied Sciences, Tampere Region Vocational College Tredu, Nokia City High School Education and Nokia City Basic Education. Tredu and the City of Nokia have started a joint school building project, and when graduating in June 2022, the building has been completed as well as Nokia Upper Secondary School, Vocational Education and Training organised by Tredu and the additional classes of Nokia Basic Education. In the future, as the so-called “joint phases” classes merge into training, it is important that the educational institutions of the different administrative sectors and forms of school operating on the campus have already contributed to change by creating a culture that combines three different forms of school. During the project, all education providers will also be given the opportunity to develop and experiment with the necessary collaboration with the increase in the age of compulsory education. The objectives of the project can be described as four main objectives: — Strengthening the operational culture of the campus of the three schools. — Examine the impact of various regulations (laws, regulations, curricula and basics of qualifications/training) on a coherent culture and functioning. — Securing joints and transitions (cf. truncation) in both primary and secondary joints as well as between secondary education. — Create models and solutions for situations caused by raising the school age. The campus 3 project supports the creation of a common campus culture through development processes, where the co-development and inclusion of all staff and students is essential. It is intended that all members of the community can contribute. The development will take the form of workshops, working groups and joint events to lay the groundwork and to establish a common culture. In addition, mapping and compiling the current situation, such as the impact of existing laws, regulations, qualification criteria and curricula on a coherent culture, surveys for staff and students, etc., will create a framework for development. As a result of the project, students will become more attached to their studies and educational marginalisation will be reduced, as the operating models of upper secondary education institutions and the end-of-primary stage of comprehensive school, created during the project, facilitate smooth transitions and support students’ ability to stay in education leading to a degree throughout their compulsory school age by means of enhanced guidance. Through the measures of the project, staff know and appreciate the regulations, content and reality of the different educational services. The campus will create a community-based and solidarity culture. In addition, as a concrete result of the Kampus 3 project, three-level manuals will be developed as a basis for harmonising the activities of the new campus. In the short term, Nokia will be able to create a community-based three-form campus supporting the student, in which students’ self-permanence develops and the social and physical learning environment form a single pedagogical learning environment. In the long run, the Nokia campus and its development analysis will provide the basis for the challenges posed by raising the school age, for example, in the preparation of curricula and the development of a safety training model to replace the previous ten-grade classes, Valma and LUVA classes. The campus that is developing for Nokia therefore produces a pilot-type model for revitalising training and serves as a benchmark for similar situations across Finland. (English) | |||||||||||||||

(Finnish)
