Uno de los hechos diferenciales del IFAE con respecto a institutos de investigación equivalentes es nuestro grupo de ingenieros y técnicos mecánicos y nuestro taller de mecanizado, el cual posee equipamientos singulares para mecanizado por corte por hilo, electroerosión, rectificadora, tornos y una máquina de mecanizado por control numérico (CNC) de tres ejes. Esta última es bastante obsoleta, su fiabilidad y precisión han bajado mucho y, para algunos de nuestros nuevos proyectos es técnicamente insuficiente. Proponemos la adquisición de una nueva máquina CNC de cinco ejes y con selección automática de herramientas._x000D_ _x000D_ Este nuevo equipamiento tendría un impacto positivo inmediato en muchos de nuestros proyectos en curso. Nos permitiría cumplir con nuestros compromisos inmediatos en ATLAS, CTA, Euclid, DESI, VIRGO, T2K y numerosos proyectos en física aplicada y nos daría opción a participar de forma satisfactoria en nuevos proyectos en tecnología aeroespacial como WFIRST. Asimismo, su adquisición consolidará la División Técnica del IFAE Técnica como una infraestructura singular para el mecanizado de piezas para instrumental científico. Además del impacto inmediato en los grupos de investigación del IFAE, su fiabilidad y capacidad de producción automática nos dará la oportunidad de dar el servicio que institutos vecinos en el campus de la UAB, en la red CERCA y el BIST necesitan y que tienen dificultad de encontrar en empresas externas. One of the characteristics that differentiates IFAE from other equivalent research institutions is our group of mechanical engineers and technicians and out mechanical workshop, that has unique equipment for wire cutting, electroerosion machining, rectifying machines and a three axes computer numerical control machine (CNC). This last one is now obsolete, its reliability and precision have degraded with time and it is technically inadequate for some of the projects we are aiming at now. We propose to acquire a new five axes CNC with automatic tool selection._x000D_ _x000D_ This new equipment would have an immediate positive impact in a lot of our current projects. It would allow us to fulfil our commitments in ATLAS, CTA, Euclid, DESI, VIRGO, T2K and in a lot of our applied physics projects and would allow us to participate satisfactorily in new aerospace technology projects such as WFIRST. Additionally, its acquisition would consolidate the IFAE¿s Technical Division as a singular infrastructure for mechanical machining in scientific instrumentation. In addition to its impact in the IFAE projects, its reliability and automatic production capacity would allow us to give the service that other neighbour institutions in the UAB campus, in the CERCA network and in BIST need and have difficulties to find in external companies.
