THIS PROJECT AIMS TO ANALYSE THE VARIABILITY IN THE CHEMICAL COMPOSITION OF SOME AGRO-INDUSTRIAL BY-PRODUCTS (OIL FAT, CITRICO PULP, TOMATO PULP AND REMAINS OF THE BROCOLI AND CAULIFLOWER CANNING INDUSTRY), TO ESTIMATE THEIR NUTRITIONAL VALUE FOR SMALL RUMINANTS (OVINE AND CAPRINE) AND TO ANALYSE THEIR INFLUENCE ON THE QUALITY OF THE PRODUCTS OBTAINED (MEAT AND MILK). TO ACHIEVE THIS OBJECTIVE, IN VITRO FERMENTATION STUDIES, FERMENTATION TESTS, IN VIVO TESTS OF DIGESTIBILITY AND NUTRIENT BALANCE, AND PRODUCTIVE PERFORMANCE TESTS WITH BAIT LAMBS AND SHEEP AND GOATS IN LACTATION WILL BE CARRIED OUT. POR OTRA PARTE, EL ENCARECIMIENTO DE LAS MATERIAS PRIMAS PARA ALIMENTACION ANIMAL REGISTRADO EN LOS ULTIMOS AÑOS HA AFECTADO NEGATIVAMENTE AL SECTOR GANADERO Y HA INCREMENTADO LA NECESIDAD DE ENCONTRAR MATERIAS PRIMAS ALTERNATIVAS PARA FORMULAR LOS PIENSOS. LA UTILIZACION DE CUALQUIER RECURSO EN LA ALIMENTACION ANIMAL REQUIERE CONOCER SU VALOR NUTRITIVO, PERO ESTA VALORACION ES COMPLEJA EN EL CASO DE LOS SUBPRODUCTOS AGROINDUSTRIALES DEBIDO A SU COMPOSICION HETEROGENEA Y VARIABLE, Y CON FRECUENCIA DESEQUILIBRADA. EN ESTE PROYECTO SE PLANTEA ANALIZAR LA VARIABILIDAD EXISTENTE EN LA COMPOSICION QUIMICA DE ALGUNOS SUBPRODUCTOS AGROINDUSTRIALES (ORUJO GRASO DE ACEITUNA, PULPA DE CITRICOS, PULPA DE TOMATE Y RESTOS DE LA INDUSTRIA CONSERVERA DE BROCOLI Y COLIFLOR), ESTIMAR SU VALOR NUTRITIVO PARA LOS PEQUEÑOS RUMIANTES (OVINO Y CAPRINO) Y ANALIZAR SU INFLUENCIA EN LA CALIDAD DE LOS PRODUCTOS OBTENIDOS (CARNE Y LECHE). PARA LOGRAR ESTE OBJETIVO SE REALIZARAN ESTUDIOS DE FERMENTACION IN VITRO, ENSAYOS CON FERMENTADORES, PRUEBAS IN VIVO DE DIGESTIBILIDAD Y BALANCE DE NUTRIENTES, Y PRUEBAS DE RENDIMIENTO PRODUCTIVO CON CORDEROS DE CEBO Y CON OVEJAS Y CABRAS EN LACTACION. DEBIDO A QUE LOS SUBPRODUCTOS SELECCIONADOS CONTIENEN COMPUESTOS BIOACTIVOS (CAROTENOIDES, POLIFENOLES, ..), SU INCLUSION EN LA DIETA PODRIA TENER EFECTOS BENEFICIOSOS SOBRE LA CALIDAD DE LOS PRODUCTOS Y EL ESTADO SANITARIO DE LOS ANIMALES, POR LO QUE ESTOS ASPECTOS TAMBIEN SE INVESTIGARAN EN EL PROYECTO. ADICIONALMENTE, SE PRETENDE ANALIZAR SU POSIBLE INFLUENCIA EN LAS POBLACIONES MICROBIANAS RUMINALES, LAS EMISIONES DE METANO Y LA UTILIZACION DE NITROGENO, YA QUE ESTUDIOS PREVIOS INDICAN QUE ALGUNOS DE ESTOS SUBPRODUCTOS PUEDEN TENER UN EFECTO MODULADOR DE LA FERMENTACION RUMINAL Y REDUCTOR DE LAS EMISIONES DE METANO. EL OBJETIVO FINAL DEL PROYECTO ES GENERAR INFORMACION PRACTICA QUE FACILITE EL USO DE ESTOS SUBPRODUCTOS AGROINDUSTRIALES EN LA ALIMENTACION DE LOS PEQUEÑOS RUMIANTES, LO QUE BENEFICIARIA AL SECTOR GANADERO Y A LAS EMPRESAS AGROALIMENTARIAS QUE LOS GENERAN Y CONTRIBUIRIA A MITIGAR LA CONTAMINACION MEDIOAMBIENTAL.
