El proyecto THE PATCH tiene como principal objetivo lograr nuevos sistemas de integración de electrónica en textiles cuya aplicación final estará focalizada en la obtención de dos sistemas diferenciados: un sistema de identificación por radiofrecuencia RFID (Radiofrecuency Identifier) y de manera adicional un sistema con tecnología LPWAN (Low Power Wide Area Network) acoplado a un sensor en el textil. Las principales propiedades que deben presentar estos sistemas o dispositivos una vez integrados en el textil son: flexibilidad, resistencia a torsión, tensión y flexión (propiedades electromecánicas), resistencia a procesos de lavado y confort además de la funcionalidad descrita, lo cual lleva implícito un gran reto que se explica a continuación.
