ESTE PROYECTO BUSCA ESTUDIAR EL IMPACTO DE LA CONDICION COGNITIVA EN LA INTERACCION Y USO DE LOS SMARTPHONES, CON EL OBJETIVO DE APOYAR EL DIAGNOSTICO PRECOZ DE DEFICIT COGNITIVO LEVE. LOS PATRONES DE COMPORTAMIENTO E INTERACCION DEL USUARIO (ACRONIMO EN INGLES BIPS, BEHAVIOUR AND INTERACTION PATTERNS) SE ESTUDIARAN COMO PARTE DE MULTI-TASKING, EN PARTICULAR DE TAREAS DUALES DONDE EL USUARIO, EN ESTE CASO, ESTARA ANDANDO Y USANDO EL TELEFONO AL MISMO TIEMPO._x000D_ _x000D_ LAS PRIMERAS FASES DEL PROYECTO TIENEN COMO OBJETIVO CREAR Y VALIDAR UNA INFRAESTRUCTURA TECNOLOGICA PARA MONITORIZAR LOS BIPS EN MOVIMIENTO. PARA ELLO, SE NECESITARA DISEÑAR E IMPLEMENTAR UNA APLICACION MOVIL, QUE TRABAJARA EN SEGUNDO PLANO, Y RECOGERA METRICAS COMBINADAS PARA MODELAR LOS BIPS (BIPAPP). ESTA APLICACION MONITORIZARA (ASEGURANDO PRIVACIDAD Y ETICA): (1) EVENTOS DEL SISTEMA (2) CONTENIDO (3) ACCIONES HAPTICAS, Y (4) NAVEGACION. LA META FINAL ES CONTRIBUIR AL DIAGNOSTICO PRECOZ DE DCL USANDO SOLO EL TELEFONO MOVIL, YA QUE LA EVALUACION DE INDIVIDUOS DURANTE EL DIA A DIA EN SU ENTORNO DA AL PERSONAL CLINICO INFORMACION MUY VALIDA EN CUANTO AL ESTADO FUNCIONAL. EN PRIMERA INSTANCIA, HAY QUE USAR TECNOLOGIA ADICIONAL, COMO SON LAS PLANTILLAS PARA ANALIZAR CON PRECISION LA MARCHA DEL USUARIO, Y CASCO EEG PARA CARACTERIZAR LOS BIPS EN TERMINOS DE COGNICION, PARA VALIDAR LA BIPAPP. POR TANTO, LAS PRUEBAS DE LABORATORIO RECOGERAN LOS DATOS DEL EEG DURANTE UNA BATERIA DE PRUEBAS REALIZANDO UNA TAREA EN PARTICULAR CON EL SMARTPHONE, TANTO PARADO COMO EN MOVIMIENTO. ESTA EVALUACION INCLUIRA A DOS GRUPOS: ADULTOS MAYORES SANOS, Y ADULTOS CON DCL. EL OBJETIVO ES IDENTIFICAR QUE TAREAS CON EL MOVIL DISCRIMINAN NOTABLEMENTE ENTRE LOS DOS GRUPOS._x000D_ _x000D_ A CONTINUACION SE HARAN PRUEBAS EN UN ENTORNO NO CONTROLADO Y DE FORMA CONTINUA, USANDO UNA INFRAESTRUCTURA REDUCIDA (PLANTILLAS+BIPAPP). LOS GRUPOS DE PARTICIPANTES USARAN ESTA INFRAESTRUCTURA EN SU DIA A DIA DURANTE 14 DIAS, EN DOS PRUEBAS DE 7 DIAS CADA UNA. ESTA EVALUACION PROBARA LA TECNOLOGIA DESARROLLADA Y SE PREPARARA PARA LA EVALUACION A LARGO PLAZO. ASIMISMO, LA COLECCION DE DATOS SE NECESITA PARA DOS PROPOSITOS: (A) VALIDAR QUE LOS BIPS PREVIAMENTE IDENTIFICADOS TODAVIA SON SIGNIFICATIVOS PARA CARACTERIZAR UN DCL EN UN ENTORNO NO CONTROLADO, Y (B) CORRELACIONAR LOS DATOS DE LA PLANTILLA Y LOS DATOS INERCIALES DEL TELEFONO PARA DETERMINAR QUE ACTIVIDADES FISICAS PUEDEN SER IDENTIFICADAS SOLO CON EL TELEFONO, Y SI LA VARIABILIDAD DE LA MARCHA SE PUEDE ANALIZAR CON ESOS DATOS INERCIALES._x000D_ _x000D_ LAS ULTIMAS ETAPAS DE ESTE PROYECTO ESTAN ENFOCADAS EN REALIZAR UNA EVALUACION A LARGO PLAZO, EN ESTE CASO, CON LA INFRAESTRUCTURA TECNOLOGICA MINIMA: SOLO BIPAPP INSTALADA EN EL TELEFONO. LOS PARTICIPANTES DE ESTA EVALUACION SERAN ADULTOS MAYORES SIN DIAGNOSTICAR, PERO CON CIERTAS DIFICULTADES COGNITIVAS LEVES (CON LA PROBABILIDAD DE SUFRIR DECLIVE COGNITIVO). LOS PARTICIPANTES SERAN EVALUADOS CON PRUEBAS PSICOLOGICAS Y USANDO EEG PARA DETERMINAR SI SUFREN UN DECLIVE NOTABLE DURANTE EL PERIODO DE EVALUACION. RECOGEREMOS LOS DATOS DE LOS BIPS DURANTE EL DIA A DIA, SIEMPRE EN MOVIMIENTO (DUAL-TASKING), Y SERA ANALIZADO USANDO DIFERENTES ACERCAMIENTOS DE ANALISIS DE DATOS PARA IDENTIFICAR SI HAY UNA REDUCCION EN LA HABILIDAD DE USAR EL TELEFONO (BASADO EN METRICAS BIP), Y RELACIONARLO CON EL PROGRESO DEL DECLIVE COGNITIVO. ESTOS RESULTADOS, VALIDADOS APROPIADAMENTE, CONTRIBUIRAN AL DIAGNOSTICO PRECOZ DEL DCL. (Spanish)

THIS PROJECT AIMS TO STUDY THE IMPACT OF COGNITIVE CONDITION IN THE INTERACTION AND USE OF SMARTPHONES WITH THE OBJECTIVE OF SUPPORTING THE EARLY DIAGNOSIS OF MILD COGNITIVE IMPAIRMENT. THE USER BEHAVIOR AND INTERACTION PATTERNS (NAMED BIPS) WILL BE STUDIED AS PART OF MULTI-TASKING, PARTICULARLY A DUAL TASK WHERE THE USER IS, IN THIS CASE, WALKING AND USING THE SMARTPHONE AT THE SAME TIME_x000D_ _x000D_ FIRST STAGES OF THE PROJECT AIM TO CREATE AND VALIDATE A TECHNOLOGICAL INFRASTRUCTURE TO MONITOR BIPS ON THE MOVE. FOR THAT, A DESIGN AND IMPLEMENTATION OF A MOBILE APP IS NEEDED, WHICH WILL WORK IN THE BACKGROUND, AND COLLECT COMBINED METRICS FOR MODELLING BIPS (BIPAPP). THIS APP WILL MONITOR (ENSURING PRIVACY AND ETHICS): (1) SYSTEM EVENTS (2) CONTENT (3) HAPTIC ACTIONS, AND (4) NAVIGATION. THE FINAL GOAL IS TO CONTRIBUTE TO EARLY DIAGNOSIS OF MCI USING ONLY THE SMARTPHONE, BECAUSE ASSESSING INDIVIDUALS IN THEIR EVERYDAY ENVIRONMENT PROVIDES CLINICIANS THE MOST VALID INFORMATION ABOUT FUNCTIONAL STATUS. HOWEVER, FIRSTLY, THERE IS NEED TO USE ADDITIONAL TECHNOLOGIES SUCH AS INSOLES TO ANALYZE USER GAIT, AND AN EEG HEADSET TO CHARACTERIZE BIPS IN TERMS OF COGNITION, IN ORDER TO VALIDATE THE BIPAPP. THUS, THE LAB TESTS WILL BE CONDUCTED USING THE COMPLETE INFRASTRUCTURE (EEG HEADSET+INSOLES+BIPAPP). THIS LAB EVALUATION WILL COLLECT EEG DATA DURING A BATTERY OF TESTS PERFORMING SPECIFIC TASKS WITH THE SMARTPHONE, BOTH BEING IDLE AND ON THE MOVE. THIS EVALUATION WILL INCLUDE TWO PARTICIPANT GROUPS: HEALTHY OLDER ADULTS AND OLDER ADULTS WITH MCI. THE OBJECTIVE IS TO IDENTIFY WHICH TASKS WITH THE SMARTPHONE SIGNIFICANTLY DIFFERENTIATE THESE TWO GROUPS._x000D_ _x000D_ THEN, THE TRIAL EVALUATION WILL USE A REDUCED INFRASTRUCTURE (INSOLES+BIPAPP). PARTICIPANTS (TWO GROUPS, HEALTHY ADULTS AND ADULTS WITH MCI, NOT NECESSARILY THE SAME PEOPLE FROM THE LAB TESTS) WILL USE THIS INFRASTRUCTURE IN THEIR EVERYDAY LIFE DURING 14 DAYS IN TWO TRIALS OF 7 DAYS EACH. THIS EVALUATION WILL TEST THE DEVELOPED TECHNOLOGY AND PREPARE THE LONG-TERM EVALUATION. ALSO, DATA COLLECTION IS NEEDED FOR TWO PURPOSES: (A) TO VALIDATE THAT THE PREVIOUS IDENTIFIED BIPS ARE STILL SIGNIFICANT TO CHARACTERIZE MCI IN AN UNCONTROLLED ENVIRONMENT, AND (B) TO CORRELATE INSOLE DATA AND SMARTPHONE INERTIAL DATA TO DETERMINE WHICH PHYSICAL ACTIVITIES CAN BE IDENTIFIED WITH JUST THE SMARTPHONE, AND IF GAIT VARIABILITY CAN BE ANALYZED WITH SUCH INERTIAL DATA._x000D_ _x000D_ THE FINAL STAGES OF THIS PROJECT ARE FOCUSED ON CONDUCTING A LONG-TERM EVALUATION, IN THIS CASE, WITH THE MINIMAL TECHNOLOGICAL INFRASTRUCTURE, I.E. THE BIPAPP INSTALLED IN THE SMARTPHONE. THE PARTICIPANTS OF THIS EVALUATION WILL BE UNDIAGNOSED OLDER ADULTS WITH A SELF-REPORT OF SLIGHT COGNITIVE DIFFICULTIES (WITH CHANCES OF SUFFERING A COGNITIVE DECLINE). PARTICIPANTS WILL BE EVALUATED WITH PSYCHOLOGICAL ASSESSMENTS AND USING EEG, AT THE BEGINNING, IN THE MIDDLE AND AT THE END OF THIS LONG-TERM EVALUATION TO ASSESS IF THEY ACTUALLY SUFFER A NOTABLE DECLINE DURING THE LONG¿TERM EVALUATION TO ASSESS IF THEY ACTUALLY SUFFER A NOTABLE DECLINE DURING THE LONG¿TERM EVALUATION PERIOD. WE WILL COLLECT DATA OF BIPS DURING EVERYDAY LIFE, ALWAYS ON THE MOVE (DUAL-TASKING) AND IT WILL BE ANALYZED USING DIFFERENT DATA SCIENCE-BASED APPROACHES TO REVEAL A LESSER ABILITY OF USING THE SMARTPHONE (BASED ON BIP METRICS) AND CORRELATE IT WITH THE PROGRESSIVE COGNITIVE DECLINE. THESE RESULTS, PROPERLY VALIDATED, WILL CONTRIBUTE TO THE EARLY DIAGNOSIS OF MCI (English)
