Cílem projektu je výstavba komunikace pro pěší a cyklisty, která je logicky vedena v souběhu se základní dopravní osou celého Zlína, třídou T. Bati, která zároveň plní i funkci průtahu silnice I/49 městem. Cyklotrasa bude plnit sběrnou funkci a zajišťovat z hlediska cyklodopravy propojení obytné zástavby ve východní části města s jeho centrální částí, současně představuje variantu propojení centrální části s páteřní cyklotrasou Zlín - Otrokovice - Vizovice.
