LA RECUPERACION DE (I) ANTIGUOS DATOS METEOROLOGICOS, (II) INFORMACION RELACIONADA CON EL CLIMA NO RECIENTE O PROXIES CLIMATICOS Y (III) DATOS SOBRE LOS FORZADORES NATURALES DEL CLIMA ES DE EXTREMA IMPORTANCIA PARA CARACTERIZAR EL CLIMA DE LA TIERRA (Y DEL SO DE LA PENINSULA IBERICA EN PARTICULAR DEBIDO A SUS CARACTERISTICAS CLIMATICAS) EN LA EPOCA HISTORICA. EN ESTA, EL NUMERO DE ESTACIONES METEOROLOGICAS ERA MUY PEQUEÑO. RESULTA LLAMATIVO QUE LOS ARCHIVOS Y BIBLIOTECAS DEL SO DE IBERIA HAN SIDO ESCASAMENTE UTILIZADOS EN ESTE SENTIDO. POR ELLO, ESTA PROPUESTA QUIERE ACTUAR SOBRE EL RICO PATRIMONIO DOCUMENTAL DE LA REGION SO DE IBERIA PARA:_x000D_ (1) RECUPERAR DATOS METEOROLOGICOS QUE NO ESTAN DISPONIBLES NI PARA LA COMUNIDAD CIENTIFICA NI PARA LA SOCIEDAD Y SE CONSERVAN, MANUSCRITOS O IMPRESOS, EN DIFERENTES BIBLIOTECAS Y ARCHIVOS. EN PARTICULAR, SE PRESTARA ESPECIAL ATENCION A AQUELLAS VARIABLES METEOROLOGICAS QUE HAN SIDO ESCASAMENTE ESTUDIADAS DESDE EL PUNTO DE VISTA DEL LARGO PERIODO COMO PUEDEN SER VIENTO, NUBOSIDAD O RADIACION SOLAR._x000D_ (2) RECUPERAR DATOS PROXIES DEL CLIMA PASADO EXTREMEÑO COMO PUEDEN SER LAS ROGATIVAS POR LA LLUVIA, CRONOLOGIAS DE INUNDACIONES O LA FECHA DE LAS VENDIMIAS. HAY MUY ESCASOS PROXIES CLIMATICOS DOCUMENTALES EN EL SO DE IBERIA. SE PRESTARA ESPECIAL ATENCION A LAS ROGATIVAS Y SU RELACION CON EL INDICE NAO, ASI COMO A LAS INUNDACIONES OCURRIDAS EN PEQUEÑAS CUENCAS HIDROGRAFICAS QUE NO HAN SIDO ESTUDIADAS HASTA AHORA._x000D_ (3) RECUPERAR DATOS SOBRE EL FORZADOR EXTERNO DEL CLIMA MAS IMPORTANTE: LA ACTIVIDAD SOLAR. PARA ELLO, CONTAMOS EN LA UNIVERSIDAD DE EXTREMADURA CON EL ¿ARCHIVO HISTORICO DE MANCHAS SOLARES¿ (HASO, EN SUS SIGLAS EN INGLES) QUE SE ENCUENTRA EN LA BIBLIOTECA DEL CENTRO UNIVERSITARIO DE MERIDA._x000D_ ESTA RECUPERACION MASIVA DE DATOS, Y SU PUESTA EN EL CONTEXTO ACTUAL, NOS PERMITIRA UNA MEJOR CARACTERIZACION DEL CLIMA DE LA TIERRA (Y, EN PARTICULAR, DEL SO DE IBERIA) DURANTE LOS ULTIMOS SIGLOS (Spanish)

N THE LAST FIFTEEN YEARS, THE WORKING GROUP ON THE CLIMATE RECONSTRUCTION OF THE UNIVERSITY OF EXTREMADURA HAS DEVELOPED A SUCCESSFUL RESEARCH WHOSE OBJECTIVE IS TO RECONSTRUCT THE CLIMATE OF THE LAST CENTURIES FROM HISTORICAL DOCUMENTS PRESERVED IN ARCHIVES AND LIBRARIES . THE RECOVERY OF (I) OLD METEOROLOGICAL DATA, (II) INFORMATION RELATED TO NON-RECENT CLIMATE OR CLIMATIC PROXIES, AND (III) DATA ON NATURAL CLIMATE FORCERS IS OF EXTREME IMPORTANCE IN CHARACTERIZING THE EARTH'S CLIMATE (AND THE IBERIAN CLIMATE IN PARTICULAR DUE TO ITS CLIMATIC CHARACTERISTICS) IN THE HISTORICAL PERIOD (LAST CENTURIES). IN THIS EPOCH, THE NUMBER OF METEOROLOGICAL STATIONS WAS VERY SMALL. IT IS STRIKING THAT THE ARCHIVES AND LIBRARIES OF THE SW IBERIA HAVE BEEN SCARCELY USED FROM THIS POINT OF VIEW. FOR THIS REASON, THIS PROPOSAL WILL USE THE RICH DOCUMENTARY HERITAGE OF THE SW REGION OF IBERIA WITH THIS AIMS:_x000D_ (1) TO RECOVER METEOROLOGICAL DATA THAT ARE NOT AVAILABLE TO THE SCIENTIFIC COMMUNITY OR TO SOCIETY AND ARE PRESERVED (MANUSCRIPTS OR PRINTED) IN DIFFERENT LIBRARIES AND ARCHIVES. IN PARTICULAR, SPECIAL ATTENTION WILL BE GIVEN TO THOSE METEOROLOGICAL VARIABLES THAT HAVE BEEN SCARCELY STUDIED FROM THE POINT OF VIEW OF THE LONG PERIOD SUCH AS WIND, CLOUDINESS OR SOLAR RADIATION._x000D_ (2) TO RECOVER DATA PROXIES OF THE CLIMATE PAST EXTREMADURA AS CAN BE THE ROGATIONS, CHRONOLOGIES OF FLOODS OR THE DATE OF THE GRAPE HARVEST. THERE ARE VERY FEW CLIMACTIC DOCUMENTARY PROXIES IN THE SW IBERIA. PARTICULAR ATTENTION WILL BE PAID TO THE ROGATIONS AND THEIR RELATIONSHIP WITH THE NAO INDEX, AS WELL AS FLOODS IN SMALL RIVER BASINS THAT HAVE NOT BEEN STUDIED UNTIL NOW._x000D_ (3) TO RECOVER DATA ON THE MOST IMPORTANT EXTERNAL FORCING OF THE CLIMATE: SOLAR ACTIVITY. FOR THIS PURPOSE, WE HAVE AT THE UNIVERSITY OF EXTREMADURA THE "HISTORICAL ARCHIVE OF SUNSPOTS" (HASO, IN ITS ACRONYM IN ENGLISH) THAT IS IN THE LIBRARY OF THE UNIVERSITY CENTER OF MERIDA._x000D_ THIS MASSIVE RECOVERY OF DATA, AND ITS PLACING IN THE CURRENT CONTEXT, WILL ALLOW US TO BETTER CHARACTERIZE THE EARTH'S CLIMATE (AND, IN PARTICULAR, THE SW IBERIAN CLIMATE) OVER THE LAST FEW CENTURIES.
