The aim of the national project is to propose ways of implementing accessibility and universal design of buildings and public spaces pursuant to Articles 2 and 9 of the UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities in Slovakia so that they can be used to the greatest extent possible by all people without the need for modifications or special design. The activities of the project will focus on research on methods of application of universal design in foreign legislation and construction practice, comparative analysis of foreign and domestic construction legislation, implementation of case studies of positive examples of buildings in Slovakia and abroad, surveys on the experiences of respondents with accessibility of building environments, etc. Based on the acquired knowledge, recommendations for changes in Slovak legislation and practice will be drawn up and illustrated methodologies for creating a universally accessible environment will be issued, which will serve as an aid in the design and implementation of buildings. During the duration of the national project, an information campaign will take place throughout the territory of the Slovak Republic in order to raise awareness among the professional and lay public about the rights of persons with disabilities and universal design. The output of the project will be 7 developed new, innovative, systemic measures and 1 information campaign aimed at promoting accessibility and universal design to ensure the inclusion of persons with disabilities in society. The expected impact of the project will be the introduction of universal design into construction practice in Slovakia, as a tool for preventing and eliminating discrimination against persons with disabilities in access to physical environment and services.  The result of the project is in line with the Human Resources Operational Programme “Supporting research and development of the universal design of goods and services, facilities and equipment within the meaning of Article 2 of the UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities.” (English)

Počas trvania národného projektu bude prebiehať informačná kampaň v rámci celého územia Slovenskej republiky za účelom zvýšenia povedomia odbornej a laickej verejnosti o právach osôb so zdravotným postihnutím a o univerzálnom navrhovaní. Výsledok projektu je v súlade s Operačným programom Ľudské zdroje „Podpora výskumu a vývoja univerzálneho navrhovania tovarov a služieb, zariadení a vybavenia v zmysle čl. 2 Dohovoru OSN o právach osôb so zdravotným postihnutím.“ (Slovak)
