Το έργο αφορά στην καταγραφή, αποτύπωση, και τεκμηρίωση του νεότερου πολιτιστικού αποθέματος των νησιών της Περιφέρειας Βορείου Αιγαίου. Η συλλογή και αποτύπωση στοιχείων της νεότερης (μετά το 1830) υλικής και άυλης πολιτιστικής κληρονομιάς ολόκληρων οικισμών, επιχειρείται για πρώτη φορά με συνδυασμένο τρόπο από το Υπουργείο Πολιτισμού και Αθλητισμού (ΥΠΠΟΑ) και θα τροφοδοτήσει το περιεχόμενο εφαρμογών ηλεκτρονικής διακυβέρνησης που έχουν ως στόχο τη διάσωση και προστασία αυτής της κληρονομιάς, καθώς και εξωστρεφών εφαρμογών με τουριστικό και εκπαιδευτικό χαρακτήρα για την ανάδειξη και προβολή της Περιφέρειας στο ευρύ κοινό ως ελκυστικού τουριστικού προορισμού.
