Η αρχή που διέπει την θεραπευτική παρέμβαση είναι η ενδυνάμωση των λειτουργικών πλευρών του ατόμου, η ενίσχυσή του με όλους τους δυνατούς τρόπους και η παράλληλη παρέμβαση στα δυσλειτουργικά του χαρακτηριστικά.Δίνεται έμφαση στην καλλιέργεια και στην ανάπτυξη εκπαιδευτικών και επαγγελματικών δεξιοτήτων, στην εύρεση εργασίας και στη διασφάλιση παραμονής σε αυτήν.
