Karst rivers of the Adriatic basin are fascinating places, exhibiting both natural charm and usefulness for a vast array of human activities. Throughout history, they have been used as water source, food source, for transport of goods that sustained the first human settlements in rush Dinaric environment, and in more recent times as places to visit and play. Therefore on the rivers have emerged historical cities subject of this project, Salona today Solin, Doclea today Podgorica and Bona today Blagaj, Mostar. With the story on the origin of culture, the rivers offer a story about the richness of the natural heritage. Due to the frequent isolation of watercourses, rivers of the Adriatic basin are rich in endemic species. Thus, in the river Jadro, Buna and Neretva and the river Zeta Adriatic trout developed. Adriatic rivers offer a unique experience to every guest who is looking for a different vacation far from crowded coastline or city centre. One of the advantages for the development of special forms of tourism in the framework of this project is that the experience of the river happens within towns Solin, Mostar and Podgorica, which have already been recognized as a tourist destination what is extremely important if one bears in mind that any type of tourism of special interest is extremely difficult to develop in areas outside the main flow of tourist demand. RiTour will enable development of destinations on the Adriatic basin rivers for market of special interest through harmonisation of strategic documents on sustainable principles, through capacity building of providers of tourism offer, creation of cross-border tourism products, improvement and valorisation of protected cultural and natural goods and finally through proper marketing with the final purpose to increase tourist flow in our region and to improve socio-economic environment what will be of benefit for 320.061 inhabitants living in our cities.
