Točník je místní částí Města Klatovy a v současné době jsou jeho obyvatelé zásobeni pitnou vodou z domovních studní. Přičemž množství vody v těchto studních je především v letních měsících nedostatečné a nedostatečná je též kvalita této pitné vody. Realizace projektu "Vodovod Klatovy - Točník" zajistí obyvatelům Točníku dodávku dostatečného množství kvalitní pitné vody, která bude do Točníku přivedena z veřejného vodovodu města Klatovy (skupinový vodovod pro veřejnou potřebu Nýrsko - Klatovy).
