Molecular astrophysics is the interdisciplinary science using molecules in space to characterize physics and chemistry of astronomical objects. In star-forming regions, where stars like our Sun are born in dense, cold cocoons of dust and gas, molecules are often the only means to study the physical processes at play. Their presence and abundances are key to understand chemical evolution of star- and planet-forming material. This knowledge is crucial for understanding how our Solar System, and, ultimately, life on Earth emerged. In this project, we will create the first group in Poland in this new and interdisciplinary discipline that receives enormous attention in the astronomical community and society. We will use the state-of-the-art telescopes to determine the role of environment for star formation. The project is interesting for two companies that will use PI expertise in the infrared detectors and atmospheric models in the development of world-wide networks of telescopes. (Polish)
