Transport infrastructure is the weakest element of the Polish and Belarusian borderland economy. It does not match the entrepreneurship of people, nor the intensity of production and exchange or the mobility of residents. That is the main obstacle to development of tourism functions and potential of the border area. Especially since the spectacular wildlife and landscape potential of Augustow Channel is opened for tourist. Established visa-free entry tourism zone around Augustow Canal will turn to became “Lost opportunity” without integrated, well-developed and coherent transportation system making Canal accessible from both parts of the border. Overall objective of the Project is Fostering cross-border cooperation for improvement of territorial accessibility of the Polish – Belarusian border area. Target groups of the project are two groups of people: Direct participants in non-investment activities of the project, it is 18 strategic workshop participants and 40 participants of the conference. Residents located along the reconstructed roads, as their future users, as well as the ecological effects will be felt upgrading of roads. (aprox. 7600 people). Through improvement of 11,3 km of transport infrastructure, established long-term cross-border partnership for sustainable transport management, joint workshops, elaborated strategy, 6 feasibility studies and internet platform for sustainable transport management Project makes borderland area more accessible, safe and convenient for streams of passenger traffic, public services, tourists and inhabitants. Partners jointly outlined Project activities which will be carried out together or at least simultaneously. Achievement of most of the Project outputs (strategy, network, feasibility studies) requires close cooperation between the Partners and is not possible without it. Same as sustainability and maintenance of results. (Polish)
