Předmětem projektu je zkapacitnění silnice I/27 na čtyřpruhové uspořádání v délce hlavní trasy 1,644 km převážně v kategorii S 20,75/80. Realizací projektu dojde ke zkapacitnění dvoupruhové silnice I/27 na čtyřpruhovou směrově rozdělenou komunikaci Zkapacitněním komunikace I/27 v úseku mezi Plzní a Třemošnou dojde rovněž ke zkrácení jízdní doby a snížení rizika dopravních nehod.
