Develop material recycling technology by modifying the carbonate obtained from tyre pyrolysis to be used as a pigment or filler in the polymer manufacturing industry.
Property / summary

SA.55396(2019/X) The subject of the project is to develop a technology for modification of popirolytic carbonate derived from the thermal decomposition of tyres. Modified carbonisate is to be a valuable raw material for use in the polymer industry, with a focus on two main applications: as a pigment for regranulates made of recycled thermoplastics and as a filler in rubber materials. The innovation of the project includes both technological innovation, which is the method of modification of carbonisation and product innovation, as the products received will be a new commercial product. Technological innovation is based on the use of a technological solution that combines purification and valorisation of popirolytic carbonate. Physical methods (magnetic cleaning of carbonisate from steel elements of the tyre) and thermochemical methods, involving the action of the activator, e.g. carbon dioxide on hot carbonisate, in order to improve its quality, i.e. increase the development of the surface and give it the characteristic properties of pigments and fillers. Product innovation consists of final products: pigment and filler derived from modified carbonisate, which do not differ in quality from commercial products on the market. Thus, they are an attractive raw material, e.g. in the polymer industry. It is worth emphasising that the results of the project will enable the development of the by-product resulting from the pyrolysis process of tyres giving it a market value. The solution obtained during the project will affect the company’s profits and enable the efficient operation of the tyre pyrolysis plant, which is used for the recycling of rubber waste. (English)

(Polish)
