The aim of NP-Sheep is interdisciplinary, international collaboration, to share and exploit sheep feeding management expertise across the Northern Periphery and Arctic (NPA) areas, and provide recommendations on optimum use of pasture and silage production in these areas, where the grazing period is short. The agriculture and food industries are economically important for NPA areas, but expertise in sheep management (SHM) is unequally distributed, and should be strengthened to ensure economic growth in the sheep sector, while protecting natural resources. The project will develop tools and models for SHM good practices. An inventory of cost-efficient, innovative, best management practices for sheep feeding (indoor and pasture), across regions and production systems, will be produced. Several will be implemented at SME sites, overseen by an advisory board of farmers, advisors and researchers, and results disseminated through guidance documents. Project outputs: NPA learning platform for sheep producers, Durable exchange of knowledge across the NPA, Enhanced knowledge level of sheep advisory organisations, Guidance on sheep farming best practices.
