Thanks to CrossRoads (2010-2014) and CrossRoads2 (2016-2020), 250 collaborating companies from Flanders and the Netherlands were able to realize more than 90 concrete innovations. Both projects have a lasting economic impact on the border region. For example, CrossRoads2 alone has been able to generate an estimated 400 additional jobs in the border region. CrossRoads2 Sustainable Energy (CR2SE) emerged from the current CrossRoads2 and emphasizes innovation projects related to sustainable energy, energy efficiency, renewable energy, CO2 reduction and capture. The project focuses specifically on a reduction of 200 tons of CO2 per year per sub-project, starting with the market introduction of the developed technology (for comparison: the carbon footprint of a resident in Flanders is 20 tons of CO2) annually. The 8 parties involved in CrossRoads2 remain on board and are jointly responsible for the practical realization. The Flemish energy cluster Flux50 was involved for extra support. The project supports 21 innovation projects in which about 40 SMEs participate. A maximum subsidy of €150,000 is provided for per innovation project, in which at least one Flemish and one Southern Netherlands company participates (50% of the total project budget). More information about the selected innovation projects can be found on the project website. (English)
