The principals of the project (Visit Värmland together with Dalslands Turist AB on the Swedish side of the border and the three Norwegian tourism organizations in Akershus, Hedmark and Østfold) and other involved parties in the regions has worked together in tourism development for many years and a solid foundation for continued common development has been laid. Crossborder structures and networks has been created and a common view on the border as a resource and an important part for tourism development is established. Trail- and eventbased tourism is two growing fields of tourism with great potential. The applying regions have very strong potential to develop into competitive destinations within these segments. There is an existing trail infrastructure and there are several ongoing projects developing new bike trails. This has created new opportunities for business and product development. In addition to a large number of “eat-stay-see” products the regions taking part in the project have strong and similar landscape-, nature- and cultural values necessary to develop competitive trail-based products within hiking and biking. In addition, there are unique waterways in the region. There is a great potential in creating a border crossing inventory of knowledge and event resources and make that available to event organizers in the project area. Event organizers and the tourism industry will benefit from developing and packaging event products in collaboration and in dialog with touroperators. Sweden and Norway also have the potential to be much larger markets for each other within event tourism. The overall objective for the project is to strengthen the tourism business in the area and give the companies the opportunity to grow on both the domestic and different international markets. The objective will be reached mainly through various business developing activities, but also via networking and competence enhancing measures. Market driven business- and product development will be the most important activity through the project. The primary target group for the project is small and medium sized business working within tourism in the project regions of Akershus, Dalsland, Hedmark, Värmland and Østfold. Other identified target groups are sport clubs, municipalities, local and regional tourism organizations, various event organizers and the representatives for the trail infrastructure. Information added on 2020-05-19, regarding the mitigation of the effects of COVID-19 (the coronavirus pandemic that started in 2019) (English language only): The project works to strengthen SMEs within tourism through cross-border business development activities, networking and competence enhancing measures. The local and domestic tourism is probably the part that will start to come back first when the situation with the coronavirus changes. The project is therefore working to have customized products available for SMEs at that time, so they can get back in business and hopefully save as many jobs as possible. (English)
