Property / summary

The cities Weil am Rhein and Huningue want to reuse former industrial areas for apartments, offices, businesses and other uses (schools, youth houses, open spaces). Given the cost of these conversions, this project only includes the realisation of a common green area of 20 000 m² on the opposite banks of the Rhine. A possible remediation of contaminated sites is carried out before the INTERREG project. The construction work is accompanied by awareness-raising measures. These include workshops and a small exhibition, targeting interested citizens and children and, on the other hand, professionals. Citizens and children are particularly concerned with making complex information accessible to the general public, thereby raising awareness of the challenges posed by land use. For professionals, the focus is on a cross-border view of the two urban development projects, their impact and the realisation of a cross-border project. One last module is dedicated to communication. On the one hand, the aim is to promote the project and the support of the EU/INTERREG through press conferences, building boards and boards, as well as informing the residents about the construction work and promoting the identification of the population with the project through a major project closure ceremony.
