Accelerating Women’s Enterprise (AWE) aims to address the gender imbalance in enterprise start-up, the service provision void for disadvantaged women, and the lack of capacity in the enterprise support ecosystem in the France Channel England area. Women own at best 20% of UK businesses and 30% of French, and men are twice as likely to start a business. Disadvantaged women, (including unemployed, low/no educational skills, single mothers, see WP2 for target group), have additional barriers and needs, such as lack of skills and capital, self-esteem and confidence. They need a longer, more intensive and personalised service not provided by mainstream support. Through an innovative and cross border approach building the women and her business in parallel, and the co-creation of new tailored training, support and mentoring, AWE will help women create more sustainable businesses and 134 jobs during the the project, and 20 more in the subsequent 6 months. The resultant subsequent savings to our economies through reduced benefit dependency and associated tax income is estimated to be €2M annually. Our social innovation to build wider long-term capacity rests in forming an External Committee (EC) of mainstream enterprise stakeholders. All AWE deliverables will be contained in an innovative, practical Starter Kit which they will use to improve their services, as they currently lack the knowledge and tailored tools/resources to do so. Demand is proven by 22 already having signed letters of participation and support. The Starter Kit includes a specialist trained mentorbank, 35 hours of new training content, for F2F delivery and in an e-learning format to increase reach and accessibility, research, and intensive bootcamps. This will increase the impact, reach and legacy of AWE. The actual outcomes by the end of the final delivery period in 2022 for women trained - 634, jobs created - 80, mentors trained - 202 and mentor/ mentee matches - 185. The target outcomes to achieve by the end of the project in 2023 for women trained - 911, jobs created - 107, mentors trained - 247 and mentor/ mentee matches - 230. (English)
