The project NTIT has two main objectives, which correspond to common challenges of the programme area: 1. enhance cross-border SMEs competitiveness in creative industries through fostering innovation, research and technological development; 2. development of cultural tourism and business activity, creating more visibility for cultural heritage in border regions of Russia and Estonia. ACTIVITIES 1. Creating a cross-border Centre of Excellence of New Technologies in Performative Arts (CENTPA): a structural unit of Performance Art Centre Vaba Lava in Narva, where new services, products and technical solutions both for performative arts and other sectors are elaborated and implemented. CENTPA will create new jobs and offer SMEs support services. CENTPA with its well equipped studios, a conference room, working rooms and rooms for accommodation will be a location for masterclasses, residencies, training programs for cross-border clients. During project period all facilities will be renovated, furnished and provided with video, sound, lightning, portative stage equipment and new technologies. CENTPA is a vehicle for developing SMEs of creative industries as well as cultural tourism. 2. Establishing a cross-cultural biennale of the performative arts On the Edge simultaneously taking place both in Narva and Leningrad oblast bringing together artists and spectators from Estonia and Russia. It is a platform for demonstrating performative arts and culturage heritage with new technologies. Estonian-Russian co-productions are being created during residencies at CENTPA. Relevance of the festival: 1) it will be a demo platform for presenting new technologies of the performative arts, 2) it promotes culturale heritage of both Eastern Virumaa and Leningrad oblast through new technologies, 3) the festival draws attention to the border region: in addition to the festival, visitors have a chance to visit the diverse cultural sites on both side of the border. The cross-border festival will be an excellent vehicle for advancing cultural tourism. PARTNERSHIP The lead partner of the project is the Performing Arts Centre Vaba Lava. In December 2018, a new venue in Narva was opened in the former Soviet time factory complex Baltiets (Linda 2). Establishing a new performing arts centre creates new opportunities for cultural exchange and enliven the cultural and economic environment of the whole border area. The main strength of the project lies in sustainable cross-border Estonian-Russian cooperation with strong partners from the performative arts field: Performing Arts Centre Vaba Lava (Narva), Baltisky Dom (St. Petersburg) and Access Point Festival (St. Petersburg) in synergy with associated partners involved in developing innovative technological solutions, services and products: Association of Narva Creative Industry Incubator - OBJEKT, MEDIT - Tallinn University Centre of Excellence in Digital Culture and Media Innovation and online tickets sales site Piletilevi; and theatres from Estonia and Russia. Developing, implementing and marketing innovative digital applications consequently promoting triple-helix cooperation of public, private, R&D; sectors will be aimed at both Estonian and Russian markets. During the project period both partners from Russia will stay in residency at CENTPA, create a coproductions and organize cross-cultural biennale On the Edge simultaneously taking place both in Narva and Leningrad oblast. RESULTS The project is innovative since the two sectors, performative arts and new technologies, have not collaborated so closely and been involved in research and development before. Main beneficiaries are SMEs in performing arts and technology sectors, theatre organizations in Russia and Estonia who have started networking, SMEs in cultural tourism and service industries, cultural operators of a broad spectrum, tourists and visitors in region. Main outputs are CENTPA (local infrastructure will improve), new innovative services and products involving digital solutions, a new cross-border festival, where Estonian-Russian co-productions involving new theatre technologies are being presented, cultural heritage is made available for a larger audience through new technologies; creative industries and innovation will get an impetus in the border regions. SUSTAINABILITY CENTPA will be a testing ground for innovative services and products in both countries: by the end of the project period CENTPA will have elaborated a sustainable business plan as well as porfolio of products and services. The festival will take place every second year as a biennale. After the end of the project period, collaboration with partners and subcontractors will continue regarding both the activities at CENTPA and the festival On the Edge. (English)
