The project is implemented in the framework of the areaal typology of languages. The subject of the study is sentimental particles (parts related semantically to the entire sentence) in Eurasian languages (e.g. “juk” and “or”). The study aims to determine how the positions of sentencing particles in the sentence relate to their functions. It is assumed that positions partly determine functions. It is also assumed that the positions themselves are not random: sentencing particles appear either at the beginning of the sentence or after the first syntactic group (in Wackernagel position) or in the middle of the sentence after the verb or at the end of the sentence. Each position is characterised by one function or another. According to our hypothesis, particles in different positions (with matching functions) appear in Eurasia on an areal principle, i.e. neighbouring geographically, but not necessarily related, languages have similar types of sentimental particles. Moreover, it is assumed that the Eurasian continent is characterised by a continuum of particle types. This hypothesis should be confirmed and modified during the study if necessary. The main method of the survey is the analysis of a representative sample of Eurasian languages (about 70-80 languages). Language material will be obtained in the first turn from existing grammar and special studies. Supporting methods — analysis of language corpuses, direct consultation of informants. An academic tour is planned to take advantage of the library there. The scientific result of the research will be a broad theoretical summary of the Eurasian sentimental particle types and their areaal distribution on the continent. The results will be published in two articles in traptaute peer-reviewed magazines in English and in one article in Lithuanian, presented in one international conference on general linguistics outside Lithuania, one conference and one summer school in Lithuania. Activities to promote science are also planned. (English) | |||||||||||||||

Be to, spėjama, kad Eurazijos žemynui būdingas dalelyčių tipų kontinuumas. (Lithuanian)
