International experience shows that vocational competition helps to strengthen the quality of secondary vocational education and its attractiveness to learners. It also helps facilitate young peoples transition from school to work and contributes to strengthening the national supply of skills. Goal, purpose Excellence in VET (Vocational Education and Training) and its status should be raised by vocational competitions and strengthened cooperation within the labour market. The planned and implemented measures leading to an improved and more attractive VET, is expected to motivate more young people to choose vocational training and thus is expected to attract an increased number of applicants. The project aims to empower learners to improve, utilizing less gender-stereotyped knowledge prior to their choice of education and vocation. Method The project raise the status of vocational education training by vocational competitions in cooperation with vocational learners, vocational teachers, counsellors, industries, businesses and municipalities. It will develop and implement a vocational competitions concept for a topic integrated approach to vocational training for greater quality, relevance, reality-based learning and enhanced values for gender mainstreaming, non-discrimination and accessibility. The owner of the project is WorldSkills Sweden which is collaboration between the Confederation of Swedish Enterprise, Trade Unions and the State through the National Agency for Education, Ministry of Education and the National Agency for Higher Vocational Education.
