Social innovation for more effective social inclusion of disadvantaged Roma women | |||||||||||||||
Property / summary | |||||||||||||||
The project aims to strengthen transnational cooperation between Integro Association, Bulgaria and the International Network of Maternal Empowerment Centers, briefly “mine — pass” from Stuttgard, Germany, in their efforts to create more opportunities for social integration of vulnerable Roma women. For the first time, it gives Integro the opportunity to explore thoroughly through an expert approach and transfer the innovative practice Maternity Centre (MIC), creating a safe, developing social space for women in vulnerable situations. In particular, this project will explore the approaches of the IC to create space and activities in them for the children of mothers who visit them and how to organise and conduct income-generating activities in the IC. We believe that these are essential elements of MCs, through which Roma women will more easily overcome the Partriarchal Forces, limiting their opportunities for social and employment realisation. The project will allow the study of another innovative practice — the Social Orientation Course organised for migrants in many Western European cities. By adapting it to the needs of Roma women from patriarchal communities who do not know well the macro-society they live in and its integration with other elements of the IC, we expect to create a social innovation that will increase the opportunities for inclusion of Roma women. The project foresees activities for research, adaptation and profiling of the two innovative practices in three Roma communities from settlements falling within the Danube. It builds on the results of a project funded in 2015-2016 by the State Ministry of Baden-Württemberg, a partnership project of the Network “mine — pass” and the Integro Association, through which three Roma women’s groups were created to launch MCs. This project is supported by the State Ministry of Baden-Württemreg because it contributes to the transfer of knowledge and experience in important areas for them and to their regional policy in relation to the EUDSR.
