EN EUROPA, TANTO EN LA EDAD MEDIA COMO EN LA EDAD MODERNA, ERA EL LINAJE EL QUE DETERMINABA LA HERENCIA DE TRONOS Y TITULOS. LA CASA DE HABSBURGO SE CONVIRTIO DESDE EL SIGLO XV HASTA EL SIGLO XIX EN LA DINASTIA MAS PODEROSA DEL VIEJO CONTINENTE. GRACIAS A SU VINCULACION CONSTANTE AL TRONO DEL SACRO IMPERIO ROMANO GERMANICO, A QUE SU RAMA HISPANICA PROTAGONIZO LA CONQUISTA DEL NUEVO MUNDO Y LA EXPLORACION DE MARES Y OCEANOS DESCONOCIDOS, Y A UNA POLITICA MATRIMONIAL ENDOGAMICA, LOS HABSBURGO FUERON LOS UNICOS QUE PUDIERON REIVINDICAR CON SOLIDOS ARGUMENTOS LA MONARQUIA UNIVERSAL Y EL IMPERIO PLANETARIO. LOS DOS REINOS IBERICOS LLEVARON EL AGUILA HABSBURGICA A GIGANTESCOS TERRITORIOS DISTANTES EN AMERICA, AFRICA Y ASIA. ESTE INMENSO IMPERIO FAMILIAR DE FACTO FUE RATIFICADO CON LA POSESION DE LA CORONA IMPERIAL DE FORMA INTERMITENTE, Y ENTRE 1440 Y 1806, DIECISEIS MIEMBROS DEL LINAJE HABSBURGICO FUERON EMPERADORES TITULADOS. EL ARBOL GENEALOGICO FAMILIAR, GRABADO EN CUATRO PLANCHAS CALCOGRAFICAS POR EL ARTISTA FLAMENCO AEGIDUS SADELER Y EDITADO POR MARCO SADELER EN 1629 DEDICADO AL EMPERADOR FERNANDO II, ABRUMA POR EL NUMERO DE CORONAS IMPERIALES, REALES, ARCHIDUCALES, DUCALES Y CONDALES QUE EXHIBEN SUS MIEMBROS (BIBLIOTECA NACIONAL, MADRID). Y SON MUCHAS LAS REPRESENTACIONES ARTISTICAS DEL LINAJE HABSBURGICO GENERADAS DURANTE EL RENACIMIENTO EN LAS CORTES DE MAXIMILIANO I, CARLOS V, FELIPE II O FERNANDO I: ARBOLES GENEALOGICOS SEMBRADOS DE RETRATOS -QUE SE REMONTAN INCLUSO AL ARBOL DE JESE Y LA ESTIRPE DE DAVID, BUSCANDO PONER DE MANIFIESTO LA PREDESTINACION DE UNA FAMILIA-; LA HERALDICA HABSBURGICA, MANIFIESTA EN ARMORIALES Y ESCUDOS Y PROYECTADA EN LAS ARMERIAS DEL IMPERIO; MAUSOLEOS DINASTICOS, COMO EL CENOTAFIO DE MAXIMILIANO I EN INNSBRUCK O EL PANTEON DE EL ESCORIAL; LAS SERIES CRONOLOGICAS IMPRESAS, COMO LAS DE GASPAR DE OSELLE Y JACQUES BLONDEAU; LAS SERIES PALACIEGAS DINASTICAS (EL PARDO, EL ALCAZAR REAL, DESCALZAS REALES, AMBRAS); LA LITERATURA DE ESPEJOS DE LOS ANTEPASADOS (ESPEJOS DE PRINCIPES); ETCETERA, SIN OLVIDAR LA PROYECCION DE ESTAS IMAGENES EN EL GRAN APARATO FESTIVO QUE INVADIO LAS CIUDADES EUROPEAS Y AMERICANAS DURANTE LOS SIGLOS XVI Y XVII. FUERON MUCHOS EN DEFINITIVA LOS ARTEFACTOS PROPAGANDISTICOS Y ARTISTICOS QUE IRRADIARON DESDE LAS CORTES DE BRUSELAS, VIENA, NAPOLES O MADRID AL SERVICIO DE LA FABRICACION VISUAL DE UN LINAJE IMPERIAL EN PLENO RENACIMIENTO. ESTE PROYECTO DE INVESTIGACION SE PROPONE LOCALIZAR Y CATALOGAR TODOS ESTOS MATERIALES VISUALES, Y SOMETERLOS A UN RIGUROSO ANALISIS ICONOGRAFICO QUE PERMITA DETERMINAR CORRECTAMENTE LAS CLAVES, ETAPAS Y APORTACIONES DE DICHA CONSTRUCCION DINASTICA EN SU CONTEXTO HISTORICO Y ARTISTICO. POR ELLO UN OBJETIVO IMPORTANTE SERA RECOPILAR TODA LA LITERATURA HABSBURGICA A NIVEL INTERNACIONAL Y NACIONAL, MANUSCRITA E IMPRESA, QUE SUSTENTA ESTOS DISCURSOS RETORICOS VISUALES. EL AMBITO PALACIEGO Y CORTESANO, Y EL UNIVERSO FESTIVO, COMO PROYECCION DE ESTAS IMAGENES SERA OTRO OBJETIVO DE ESTUDIO. LOS RESULTADOS SE MATERIALIZARAN EN UNA SERIE DE PUBLICACIONES: MONOGRAFIAS, ARTICULOS, CAPITULOS DE LIBROS DE ALTO IMPACTO, ASI COMO EN LA PARTICIPACION DE LOS MIEMBROS DEL PROYECTO EN CONGRESOS NACIONALES E INTERNACIONALES. ESTA TRANSFERENCIA A LA SOCIEDAD SE COMPLETARA CON LA ORGANIZACION DE UNA EXPOSICION, UN CONGRESO INTERNACIONAL, SEMINARIO, WORKSHOPS INTERNOS, SUMMER SCHOOL, Y SU DIFUSION A TRAVES DE PLATAFORMAS VIRTUALES (TIC¿S, WEB 2.0), ETCETERA. IN EUROPE, BOTH IN THE MIDDLE AGES AND IN THE MODERN AGE, IT WAS THE LINEAGE THAT DETERMINED THE INHERITANCE OF THRONES AND TITLES. THE HOUSE OF HABSBURG BECAME THE MOST POWERFUL DYNASTY OF THE OLD CONTINENT FROM THE 15TH TO THE 19TH CENTURY. THANKS TO ITS CONSTANT LINKAGE TO THE THRONE OF THE HOLY ROMAN EMPIRE GERMANIC, THAT ITS HISPANICA BRANCH PLAYED THE LEADING ROLE IN THE CONQUEST OF THE NEW WORLD AND THE EXPLORATION OF UNKNOWN SEAS AND OCEANS, AND A MARRIAGE POLICY ENDOGAMICA, THE HABSBURGS WERE THE ONLY ONES WHO COULD CLAIM WITH SOLID ARGUMENTS THE UNIVERSAL MONARCHY AND THE PLANETARY EMPIRE. THE TWO IBERIAN KINGDOMS TOOK THE HABSBURGICA EAGLE TO GIGANTIC DISTANT TERRITORIES IN AMERICA, AFRICA AND ASIA. THIS IMMENSE DE FACTO FAMILY EMPIRE WAS INTERMITTENTLY RATIFIED WITH THE POSSESSION OF THE IMPERIAL CROWN, AND BETWEEN 1440 AND 1806, SIXTEEN MEMBERS OF THE HABSBURGIC LINEAGE WERE TITLED EMPERORS. THE FAMILY FAMILY TREE, ENGRAVED ON FOUR PLATES CALCOGRAFICAS BY THE FLEMISH ARTIST AEGIDUS SADELER AND EDITED BY MARCO SADELER IN 1629 DEDICATED TO EMPEROR FERDINAND II, IS OVERWHELMING BY THE NUMBER OF IMPERIAL CROWNS, ROYALS, ARCHIDUCALES, DUCALS AND COUNTALS EXHIBITED BY ITS MEMBERS (NATIONAL LIBRARY, MADRID). AND THERE ARE MANY ARTISTIC REPRESENTATIONS OF THE HABSBURGIC LINEAGE GENERATED DURING THE REBIRTH IN THE COURTS OF MAXIMILIAN I, CHARLES V, PHILIP II OR FERDINAND I: GENEALOGICAL TREES SOWN WITH PORTRAITS -WHICH EVEN GO BACK TO THE JESE TREE AND THE STOCK OF DAVID, SEEKING TO HIGHLIGHT THE PREDESTINATION OF A FAMILY; THE HABSBURGICA HERALDIC, MANIFESTED IN ARMORIALS AND SHIELDS AND PROJECTED IN THE ARMERIAS OF THE EMPIRE; DINASTICAL MAUSOLEUMS, SUCH AS THE CENOTAPH OF MAXIMILIAN I IN INNSBRUCK OR THE PANTEON DE EL ESCORIAL; PRINTED TIME SERIES, SUCH AS GASPAR DE OSELLE AND JACQUES BLONDEAU; DINASTICAS PALATIAL SERIES (THE PARDO, THE ROYAL ALCAZAR, ROYAL BAREFOOT, AMBRAS); THE MIRROR LITERATURE OF ANCESTORS (MIRRORS OF PRINCES); AND SO ON, WITHOUT FORGETTING THE PROJECTION OF THESE IMAGES IN THE GREAT FESTIVE APPARATUS THAT INVADED EUROPEAN AND AMERICAN CITIES DURING THE 16TH AND 17TH CENTURIES. THERE WERE MANY IN SHORT THE PROPAGANDISTIC AND ARTISTIC ARTIFACTS THAT RADIATED FROM THE COURTS OF BRUSSELS, VIENNA, NAPLES OR MADRID AT THE SERVICE OF THE VISUAL MANUFACTURE OF AN IMPERIAL LINEAGE IN FULL REBIRTH. THIS RESEARCH PROJECT AIMS TO LOCATE AND CATALOGUE ALL THESE VISUAL MATERIALS, AND SUBMIT THEM TO A RIGOROUS ICONOGRAPHIC ANALYSIS THAT ALLOWS TO CORRECTLY DETERMINE THE KEYS, STAGES AND CONTRIBUTIONS OF THIS DYNASTIC CONSTRUCTION IN THEIR HISTORICAL AND ARTISTIC CONTEXT. FOR THIS REASON, AN IMPORTANT OBJECTIVE WILL BE TO COLLECT ALL HABSBURGICA LITERATURE AT INTERNATIONAL AND NATIONAL LEVEL, HANDWRITTEN AND PRINTED, WHICH UNDERPINS THESE VISUAL RHETORICAL DISCOURSES. THE PALATIAL AND COURTEOUS FIELD, AND THE FESTIVE UNIVERSE, AS A PROJECTION OF THESE IMAGES WILL BE ANOTHER OBJECTIVE OF STUDY. THE RESULTS WILL BE TRANSLATED INTO A SERIES OF PUBLICATIONS: MONOGRAPHS, ARTICLES, CAPITULES OF HIGH IMPACT BOOKS, AS WELL AS IN THE PARTICIPATION OF THE MEMBERS OF THE PROJECT IN NATIONAL AND INTERNATIONAL CONGRESSES. THIS TRANSFER TO SOCIETY WILL BE COMPLETED WITH THE ORGANISATION OF AN EXHIBITION, AN INTERNATIONAL CONGRESS, SEMINAR, INTERNAL WORKSHOPS, SUMMER SCHOOL, AND ITS DISSEMINATION THROUGH VIRTUAL PLATFORMS (ICT, WEB 2.0), ETC.
